  1. After the heartbreak seen at the funeral today, I really hope this is him and he gets what he deserves.

  2. No more mention of anyone who may have aided him by driving him or giving him refuge. Hopefully they get any sort of accomplise, not just this sick bastard (If it’s him of course).

  3. He was in hospital for 5 days with the injuries? She must have out up some fight the poor girl, or someone else got to him afterwards.

  4. I reckon they waited until after the funeral to formally arrest him so as not to overshadow it.

  5. Something about this hasn’t added up for me since the bike story emerged. That bike is very distinctive as we’ve seen from recent photographs and it looks like it was picked up on CCTV multiple times prior to (and hopefully after) the murder. Who goes out on a bike, let alone a very distinctively coloured one, with the intention of abducting and killing a random person? If this was premeditated, it was premeditated extraordinarily carelessly. I just don’t see it.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, obviously, but this is seeming more and more like an incredibly impulsive crime rather than anything premeditated. Which is strange. Leads one to wonder if the murderer was on drugs, or maybe had *stopped* taking drugs (antipsychotics) and had some kind of episode, then panicked and tried to cover it up upon realising what he had done.

Hopefully the Gardaí get to the bottom of it one way or another, and ascertain whether this was a premeditated crime or a random moment of violence. I just don’t see anyone setting out on a pushbike with the intention of attacking or murdering someone, which just makes you wonder what in fuck was going on inside the murderer’s head. The fact that he left the bike behind as well, it just all comes across like somebody who did something in some kind of moment of madness and then immediately panicked when the reality of it set in.

My suspicion is that we’re going to discover eventually that the murderer was being treated for some kind of psychotic disorder and that the treatment either failed or he was non-compliant about taking his pills.

  6. Where’s the bit in the article about the man’s ‘country of origin’, because that matters in this subtly racist country

  7. Some of the national response to this tragedy has been very uncomfortable, the vigils were lovely of course. But the media have been very damaging to the family and not to mention the politicians benefitting and making organised vigils about themselves.

  8. I wonder what he’ll be like. If he’s a babbling lunatic, it feels like the social discourse over the last few days will have been irrelevant.

  9. I think everybody needs to be careful not to be unintentionally transphobic – we should probably wait to hear the suspects preferred pronouns.
