I have a US driver’s license and I wish to exchange it for a Swiss one here in the canton of Zurich. I’ve got a couple or questions:

1. Will I be getting my US driver’s license back?
2. I have only had my license (this is my first license) for 2 years, is that ok? I’ve seen people in other posts mentioning that you must have been driving for 3 years. That’s not the case for me. Is that a problem?
3. What test do I have to take? I’ve seen articles on the web saying that a driving test (not theory) will need to be taken. On this site [Umtausch eines ausländischen Führerausweises | Kanton Zürich (zh.ch)](https://www.zh.ch/de/mobilitaet/fuehrerausweis-fahren-lernen/auslaendischer-fuehrerausweis.html#1778198690) , it says ‘ohne Kontrollfahrt’ for US license holders, which I believe means only the theory test. Meanwhile, lots of people on this subreddit also say that they have their US, Canadian, and Japanese licenses (later two also on the list of ‘ohne Kontrollfahrt’) exchanged without having to take ANY test. I am so confused!

Thanks in advance!

  1. The website you link says that you need to do a theory test if you want to keep certain categories of licenses (C, D ..).

The standard license for a car is B, which is not listed, so no test.

You can also call to confirm, they are nice.
