Wasn’t the entirety of the USSR’s nuclear arsenal held in Ukraine ceded to Russia on the promise Russia would respect Ukraine’s security? Seems like Putin’s word is about as good as the toilet paper it’s smeared on.

I’m reminded of Czechoslovakia and the [Munich Agreement](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munich_Agreement) at the beginning of WW2. Everyone decided to appease Hitler by ceding the Sudetenland, without considering Czechoslovakia or even having them present at the negotiations. Chamberlain touted “Peace in our Time”. The Munich Agreement is always used as the example of futility of appeasing naked aggression. Ceding the Donbas is no guarantee that Putin will not regroup and use the time to get the West to forget Ukraine while they concentrate on other issues. Putin is counting on his fifth column in America to divide and conquer the West, and Ukraine is his first victory.
The only ceasefire that should occur should come from the Russians. They should drop their weapons and leave Ukraine.
