  1. The thing that’s got my attention is why does unarmed have a different gun silhouette?

    (Otherwise my reactions is meh)

  2. No wonder these criminals get away lightly, the Gardai have no arms

  3. Seen plenty armed cops in New Zealand, so many, when fugitive, ‘Willy the Hunted One’ was living in the shed next door,we didn’t tip the cops off, because they would have shot him…he’d raid your larder, not steal your electronic devices… survival!

  4. Norwegian police are _all_ armed if the terrorist threat level is increased. The Gardai cross their fingers, I presume?

  5. We have the armed response unit patrolling the country so we do technically have armed police.

  6. Armed Support Unit and also Detectives all carry side arms. Generally it’s run of the mill uniformed ones that are unarmed, so most of them are unarmed.

  7. American here our cops are… y’all already know 🤦🏼‍♂️

  8. Ireland clearly has armed police, even if all aren’t armed. And this is similar to many countries (India for example) which are not marked as unarmed. I wonder what’s the basis of the data behind this map.

  9. This is why using world borders to define smaller information is stupid,

  10. I imagine there would be a lot more gun crime if the gardai were armed. As it stands, most shootings are organised gang members just shooting each other.

  11. I have met people in the USA who genuinely think the purpose of giving guns to the police is to enable them to kill bad guys.

  12. Never seen police in NI WITHOUT a gun, to be honest. Often enough taking a semi auto out of the boot, depending on the occasion.

  13. With all due respect, as someone who knows several people who became Gardai, I would prefer if the average garda remained unarmed for as long as possible… honestly as much for their safety as for everyone elses
