Ukraine is probably going to get the sixty billion, but I don’t honestly see that it’s going to change much. It’s not all getting disbursed at once, much of the last aid package was spent not on weapons but on propping up the Ukrainian economy, and a great deal of what they need (155 shells) are not sourceable in quantity at any price. The one big chance to hand over large quantities of weapons with the stroke of a pen was lend-lease, and that was allowed to expire unused. That opportunity will not recur. So now what?

This may actually be good news. There has been some speculation that Johnson may actually support giving Ukraine aid ever since he started getting classified briefings. However, MAGA Republicans have promised to remove him if he does. They won’t be able to do that if the Democrats vote to keep him as the speaker.
With the last speaker, McCarthy, Democrats washed their hands of him and said they weren’t interested in saving someone who negotiated in bad faith. Johnson is no better but the situation in Ukraine is deteriorating rapidly. Johnson may be meeting with Biden to try and get some promises about Democrats keeping him in power in exchange for Ukraine.
