Mixed feelings about calling Donoughue a ‘climate sceptic’. It is…sorta…accurate…ish…but the general public tend to lump in ‘sceptic’ with ‘denier’, which is certainly wrong in this case.
The implication that Labours Uturn had anything to do with a 10k donation is obvious nonsense, it was entirely political…Donoughue is a Labour Lord, his support of Labour is a given, and nothing legitimate can be read into it.
Gawd, I’m utterly cynical about Starmer’s Labour party, but this is really scraping the barrel. Telegraph is *such* a rag.
Says everything about Labour that this woman is the face of the party in political broadcasts.
Someone who pledges to be harsher on benefits than Ian Duncan Smith.
Either way you vote you’re getting Tory austerity.
It’s all Starmer’s fault Truss finished off the dying economy 🤦♀️
Why are politicians so thick? You’re running to change the power in the land. Oh I know I’ll accept this donation from someone who can be painted as a sceptic when our central big idea for the last three years is the Green transformation.
It should be illegal for an elected member to accept any money or favours/goods in kind. Just pay them properly for constituency offices.
As much as I dislike her, I doubt that donation moved the needle on a decision that had probably been made weeks ago.
It does highlight what type of ghouls Labour’s top people are willing to get in to bed with though.
Back in the Corbyn days I had real hope things had half a chance of changing for the better…
Now I just feel “new boss, same as the old boss”.
Its depressing as fuck.
I, as a lifelong Labour voter, think this particular iteration is utterly shite. No balls on challenging Israel (though, with the antisemitism debacle, not really surprising) no concrete positions on anything, don’t give a monkey’s for vulnerable people, still neoliberal shitwads, still committed to stealth-selling the NHS.
*But* they **aren’t the Tories,** and priority Numero Uno is getting the Tories out. Maybe Labour can put *some* of the fires out, at least. Then we can think about shoring up enough support to put someone decent in charge.
Labour lord who supports Labour supports Labour, more at 11
Reeves is, in everything but name, a conservative.
Why labour has put her in such a high position when an election win is all but guaranteed shows what a phenomenally useless party it is.
Can we start calling “donations” by its true name – bribes? And start putting people in prisons for taking bribes as it should be..?
I do think they dropped it because Sunak’s fearmongering about bins and other trivial behavioural changes was working to make people afraid. Labour’s present objective is to have as few principles as possible and sail into power on the basis that they aren’t the Conservatives.
We’ll then have a government which is basically as bad as the one we have now, but is sad about it sometimes.
I would accept that this is part of the reason, however the British public is more keen about the idea of tackling climate change than making meaningful sacrifices in their daily life that will actually make an impact. It sounds negative but you only have to tell people that going vegan, giving up cars, and cutting out pointless consumerism are the best things most people can do to make an impact and you get people up in arm and claiming that is impossible.
As unpopular as this will be amongst those further on the left than the current Labour party and amongst young people (myself included), dropping their green pledge is not the death knell someone people think it is. It will gain them support from people who previously voted Labour but felt they were too soft under the likes of Milliband and Corbyn.
Quid pro quo, this is why our political system is crooked.
Don’t vote labour they are just as bad as the tories
All a scam…Schwab wrote about it 33yrs ago(his book), all politicians just push his diktats, these politicians know it’s all false…especially after lockdown exposed what a fraud it was, when the planet stopped, temps rocketed…was the same in the mid-70’s during all the mass strikes all over the world, hot summers!
I hope the people who keep shutting down any criticism of Labour with “We just have to get rid of the Tories” can do a bit of thinking here about the twats they are getting to replace them.
Another ‘see they’re as bad as each other, so vote tory anyway’ article from the telegraph, they ought to sort out their own funding woes before throwing stones about
Sorry
Are people actually buying that the entire labour position changed for…
*checks notes*
10 grand?
Really?
And don’t forget her blood money “Donations” from a fascist state.
Her Darth Vader haircut suits her so well.
Labour are not even waiting until they get into power, to become sleazy.
Donations and lobbying should be illegal. Anyone found recieving donations, having second jobs, or are found to have been influenced by lobbyists, lose their seats automatically.
