BEIRUT — Israel on Wednesday launched its longest and heaviest attack in years on neighboring Lebanon since the start of the Gaza war, striking several locations in the south, killing at least one Hezbollah fighter and three civilians, and raising further the specter of war between the two long-standing enemies.
Israeli fighter jets began “an [extensive wave of attacks in Lebanese territory](https://twitter.com/idfspokesperson/status/1757733624047157511?s=46&t=RyjxkEgQcJLVY_WhzINJ3g),” Israeli Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari announced as the strikes were underway, saying details were to follow.
The action followed a morning attack launched from Lebanon into the northern Israeli town of Safed that struck a house and an Israel Defense Forces base. One Israeli woman was killed and at least eight people were wounded, said Ilana Stein, a spokesperson for the National Public Diplomacy Directorate. She blamed Hezbollah rocket fire. “This can no longer be our reality,” she said.
Hezbollah, the Iranian-aligned paramilitary that is also Lebanon’s most powerful political group, did not immediately claim responsibility.
Hezbollah has joined an array of groups that say they’re supporting Hamas by striking Israel and, in some cases, U.S. interests in the region since Oct. 7.
That’s the day Hamas launched its bloody blitz into Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 253 more back to Gaza as hostages, according to Israeli authorities. Israel has responded with a military campaign it says is aimed at eradicating Hamas and other fighters from the enclave. It has killed more than 28,000 people there.
Since Oct, 7, rockets have flown across the non-demarcated border area between Lebanon and Israel almost daily. Approximately 170 Hezbollah members have been killed, according to a tally based on the group’s death announcements.

Feels like the second front to this war is about to open.
This isn’t getting better anytime soon, the world is heading towards conflict, as radicalism and scarcity take foot in global politics.
**I’m not saying Hezbollah isn’t a threat**, but just a reminder when Netanyahu runs out of people to bomb [he is going to jail](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/03/world/middleeast/netanyahu-corruption-charges-israel.html). That is the dystopic logic Israel and all of us are faced with. He’s always been in favor of forever war but now his freedom literally depends on it.
edit: Just a reminder I’m not saying Hezbollah isn’t a threat (lmfao wtf), I’m saying Netanyahu personally has every incentive to ignore de-escalatory actions because his own personal survival depends on it at the expense of everyone else’s such as literally risking the deaths of the hostages

> **PM vetoes further Cairo negotiations on hostages; war cabinet reportedly not consulted**
> Gantz, Eisenkot said incensed; **families outraged by decision they cast as ‘death sentence’ for captives**; Netanyahu: No progress possible unless Hamas drops ‘delusional’ demands
“Some of you may die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.” -Netanyahu, basically
World:
Hezbollah attacks Israel entire conflict: 😴

Honestly, this is a product of the middle east’s hatred for Jews since the creation of Israel. There was never going to be peace, and England should never have created a Jewish state… they should have made Jewish people feel safe in Europe instead, but they wanted them alive but gone.
If you poke a bear enough times, you’re going to get clipped. It’s as simple as that. Terrorist organizations funded by middle Easter heads of state have been attacking Israel since its inception, with several countries believing that the solution is the extermination of the Jewish people.
The antisemitism in the world is absolutely astounding. If you were Israeli, what do you think the solution would be? If you were Palestinian? Is there a world where both of those answers can co-exist? No. So here’s where we are. Israel is a military superpower, and just like Russia, we’re going to see that Irans military is not where it says it is.
Lebanon fired missiles at Israel and killed some Israelis. Israel fires back. The Lebanese go wild, blaming Israeli expansionism. Why can’t they just stop firing at Israel ?
Must be really horrible to live in countries that just keep going round in circles. This has been going on for decades and will just as likely still be ruining lives at the end of this century too.
Hey Jeff post that stuff for free
Appropriate headline: Israel finally strikes back after months of attacks from Hezbollah out of Lebanon.
I guess everyone in the comments missed yesterday’s rocket attack from Lebanon that kill 1 and injured 8
GET SOME!!!
Yet Iran continues to get a free pass.
Missing context: Hezbollah rocket barrage killed an Israeli.
This article, or at least the headline, conveniently forgets that just before Hezbollah fired one of the biggest barrages on Northern Israel, killing 1 and injuring 8 others.
Hezbollah is going to get Lebanon into some serious trouble.
