Considering the housing shortage and perhaps your personal experience with the platform, what is your opinion?
>The accommodation platform Airbnb aims to expand its presence in Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Belgium. Co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky announced on Tuesday that Airbnb is also leveraging artificial intelligence to completely change the user experience in the app.

The city of Lucerne recently voted on this, would you also be in favor of such a law in your area or in Switzerland as a whole?
>The city of Lucerne is severely restricting the services offered by platforms such as Airbnb. On Sunday, voters approved an initiative that only allows rentals for a maximum of 90 days a year.

Can’t wait to see housing prices go up even higher. There really needs to be a referendum on this.
Without having read any of the articles, my first feeling about it is “horrible”.
Look at what is happening in the Portuguese Housing Market, exactly due to Airbnb, many can’t afford rent anymore or the dream of an home since everything is bought out for Airbnb.
30 days a year is reasonable unless it’s a shared accommodation situation. It removes the economic incentive to invest in property for short term rental.
Fuck airbnb.
Although I dont think it will become a problem. Swiss cities will vote heavily against it and severely restrict it everywhere.
Terrible. Fuck this company.
I’m an owner, so I suppose this might just raise prices for me or allow me to AirBnB in the future rather than rent, but still, this dude can fuck right off. The cantons/gemeinde need to act. Now.
It’s our responsibility as a collective of residents to prevent this by ensuring that legislation is enacted to outlaw it. If we don’t then we collectively deserve what we get.
Airbnb is dead. It used to be useful when you could get a cheap flat and I used it a lot in those years.
Nowadays it’s so expensive I don’t even check it anymore. Often you can get the same place also on booking.com for half the price. And in general hotels and even aparthotels are just cheaper now. So they can expand all they want but with their ridiculous prices I don’t think they’ll be very successful
If used as it was supposed to be used, when first released, I like AirBnB. The idea was a kind of couch-surfing/let people stay in your place when you are away. That’s great.
The problem is that it became a hotel site, where people bought specific apartments specifically for AirBnB, and didn’t use them for habitation.
I don’t think he knows how this country works. I had a conversation with a real estate agent who told me if I tried to buy a property to do airbnb the seller might prefer not to sell to me, and even if he did I would need to get permission from the Commune..
Yes! Then the forever mortgages can increase into everyone’s next reincarnation 😉
Let’s tax the shit out of Airbnb and force them to close up shop here
Simple rules should be appled:
– you can only rent out what you own personnaly (that way no major groups can bulk buy property in touristic regions to make lots of money)
– all revenue made by renting which exceeds the “valeur locative” of the house/appartment should be taxed at >50% and that money should go as subsidies for people in need.
Airbnb should be able to be used by owners who need it as a stopgap (let’s say between tenants) to not lose money, but not to generate a massive profit!
Fuck all these “platform” based companies and the negative impact they bring!
In Geneva, the law is that a property can only be let via a site like AirBnB for a maximum of 60 days a year. I think all the other cantons need to adopt laws similar to this. Housing is already hard to come by and expensive. We don’t need it made worse by AirBnB.
Yes good idea, housing market in this country is in such a good shape already!:)))))))))))))))))))))
I do have some trust in Swiss legislators, though. Airbnb CAN be nice-to-have if harshly regulated
LOL what are they gonna rent out? Zurich has 0.06% empty flats and nation wide it’s 2%. Also with our expensive renting and buying prices, the amount of people who could pay for an airbnb and not just take a hotel will be slim.
I don’t think it is the same situation in swiss cities as abroad as in Switzerland cities are not the main focus of tourism. Look at the mountainous areas to see problems with tourist housing. People like to get their panties in a knot over solar or wind farms but many beautiful areas have already been ruined by an endless flood of vacation homes.
In swiss cities right now it’s mainly business apartments that are putting pressure on rents. I’m not sure AirBnB is very well suited for this market. Also, business apartments do actually serve an important role in the economy
That being said, there’s no harm in putting a stop to misuse of apartments as vacation homes. Put in a regulation that prevents people from renting out an apartment for short term stays unless they live in it themselves for most of the year. That way people can put their apartments to use while they are on vacation but you can’t buy an apartment just to turn it into a permanent vacation home for tourists.
Airbnb ia the biggest piece of shit company, stay right the fuck away
I pray that the citizens will vote against it. New York just regulated the hell out of this madness. One can only hope the people in Switzerland are aware and will fight it accordingly
