Curse of being the developed world. If other regions were able to write down their horrors, it would probably have been more equal.
I understand that this map isn’t “accurate” to a fault. But it’s sort of funny that the most peaceful regions today are the ones that practically fought their neighbours the most.
I remember a quote from Nietzsche: “War and courage have done more great things than charity. Not your sympathy, but your bravery hath hiherto saved the victims”
He was right
And that’s mostly just everyone trying to wipe out the French !
That’s what happens when people write their history down instead of oral tradition.
I like the one in the middle of Siberia
What is the battle fought in northern siberia?
I love how Belgium is the centre of many things, like the EU and apparently in what comes to battle locations, and yet, they’re still irrelevant
My ancestors had it rough it seems.
Common European overrepresentation on Wikipedia.
Every single battle in China has the same casualties as war in Europe.
Most European battles:
Combatants: King Count Baron Chad von Poopenfarten, his cousins Jeff and Barry and 10 blokes from the castle pub vs his other cousin Prince Juan Maria Carlos Jose Maria de los Taquitos and his old football team
Casualties: 6 from cholera and Jeff from diving into the mud while wearing full armor
Most Chinese battles:
Combatants: General Mao Ling who said that Divine Emperor Chao Fukmi is a poopnose and began the bloodiest civil war in history so far
Casualties: 112 million civilians, some 300.000 were eaten during the siege of Bingchilling
It’s all about efficiency
Howd they get this many Battles in Ireland? They cant possibly have an article for every IRA ambush
English Wikipedia has articles for every pub brawl in an Anglo Saxon petty kingdom’s main village but poor coverage for non Western history, even if there are abundant written records about it (not in English tho).
Recorded battles****
How are there so few dots in the ocean?
To be honest, this map simply shows that most battles we still remember are the ones we wrote about. So basically it highlights the literacy rate in Europe and shows how illiterate barbarians actually are.
These are just the recorded ones. We have no idea how often for example Native Americans or Aboriginals fought each other.
There’s no better way to get to know someone than to fight them.
Japan honorary Europe
Probably recorded history. In West Africa, tribal wars were more common but written history was popular. Instead they relied on oral traditions which understandably has massive limitations. But wow. Uk and France fight buddies forever
Why do you think Eurpoe has been so dominant over the early modern to the 2nd world war. Spent 2500 mastering warfare. Technology always advices quickiest during times of war.
Time to take it to Greenland! Sorry to all of the 5-6 ppl who live there.
Ok, I have to ask…that single battle on the west coast of Australia?
Our Emu-friends is your moment to shine¡
I wonder if one of the dots in Australia refers to a battle during the Emu war.
