This man deserved a Champions League medal with Madrid in 2012🥲
Mou is forever a legend for what he’s done. Him and the club was a match made in heaven.
In hindsight, La Liga failing to truly capitalize on that era was a probably its biggest mistake in terms of marketing. Outside of the ease of the English language, there shouldn’t be an excuse. People talk about the Liverpool v City years but it paled in comparison to have the two best players in history going at each other, and the two best coaches in the world doing the same. Even after they left, Ronaldo and Messi were there for nearly a decade.
It’s almost mythological to have had this era in front of us.
The league would’ve been a completely different behemoth had it been marketed properly internationally, revenues would’ve made the Tebas deal irrelevant. Clubs would’ve been a lot more healthy financially.
Nowadays, a weak ass Barça who’s nowhere close to returning to their best, is not good for the league, whether we like it or not. Atletico don’t have the consistency to challenge year in and year out, and Girona, well, they lack the stature to draw in viewership. Sevilla is not there anymore. Finally La Liga being an unserious organization as well (let’s investigate the rapist ‘slur’, instead of the racist chants) and its antics are killing Spanish football.
This is a shame because tactically it’s greatly superior to English Football but it’s simply not marketed well. Once again, although viable, English can’t be the only excuse as to why La Liga is so far behind the Premier League.
Wait, i heard he left in bad terms because locker room issues that toxic etc. What actually happened that leads to his departure? was we doing bad in game wise?
I’ll always defend Mou. Every Culé loves to boast about their legendary team and play style that no one could stop. Well this man did in 2011. He laid the foundation for years to come
Not a Real fan but followed the club really closely around this period. Prior to his arrival, you would think that Mourinho would have left with the legacy that Ancelotti has now but Jose, I think like at many clubs he passed through was the necessary culture changer that led to future success. His Real teams played nice counter attacking football but they also fought like dogs when they needed to. That period could have been a movie in itself of building Benzema into the 9 that Real needed, finally knocking off Barca, then the drama between him and the likes of Casillas and Ramos.
Despite his success, Mourinho has always felt like an outsider crashing the party of the football elite so while his medals are worthy of being manager at Real Madrid, it never quite felt like the fit it should have been. There will be books and movies about his career, fascinating character.
Don Jose Mourinho Parera
I can just imagine CR7 talking about “I can get one more” while up 6-0 on levante 🤣
I started watching football in 2010, and the mou era was the first era I watched as a football fan. What amazing memories, I miss them.
I still believe that Real Madrid of 2011/12 was the best real madrid I have seen so far. None of the future real madrid teams till now compare to the amazing football we played that season.
It was the 100 points La Liga season, a record that still holds till date, 12 years after. And also the most goals scored in a season.
I know Madrid fans have mix opinions of Mous time however, I think it can’t be denied that he laid the foundations for the success Carlo and Zidane had.
His time at Real Madrid crucial and has played out well.
Really hoped he’d bring us La Decima, especially in 2012. That Bayern loss still stings
Mou was great – restored our indomitable spirit and broke Barcelona’s mind and character. He raised the pressure and stakes so high that Pep couldn’t handle it, forcing Pep to quit.
No one will say it, but he set the foundation for what Real Madrid would end up doing with Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti.
His Real Madrid team played some of the best counter-attacking football you’ll ever see. They had down to an art form.
My favorite time as a Madrid supporter. Jose was the culture changer.
