Another voice silenced. Will the Russian people rise to this? no they lost their hero’s one by one and lost their sense of justice and identity with it…..
**From The Telegraph:**
Alexei Navalny is dead, the prison service of the Yamalo-Nenets region where he had been serving his sentence said on Friday.
The jailed opposition leader fell sick during a walk, fainted and died quickly after that, the prison service said in a statement.
In a statement published on its website, the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District said that Navalny “felt unwell” after a walk on Friday, and “almost immediately lost consciousness”.
It said that medical staff had been called, but that they were unable to resuscitate Navalny. It said the reason of death was being established.
Only the stupid, brave, or desperate are willing to oppose Putin.
Say what you like about Navalny and his past nationalistic bent, but he stood up to Putin, opposed him, and even returned to Russia knowing the risks.
I don’t think he was stupid (perhaps naively/egotistically thought that his popularity would save him from jail/death) and not desperate (he could have continued living abroad). But he was brave to return to try and challenge the system.
There are few left in Russia who are willing to stand up to Putin now. Most have either fled or been killed.
I suspect now the only thing that will cause a change is desperation, if enough Russians are killed, if the economic conditions become really really bad (and it would have to be bad, Russians know how to suffer economic hardships), then maybe there will be a revolution.
Otherwise, the prospects for a free and open Russia remain grim, and the harder things get there, the more Putin will clamp down, and the more like N. Korea it will become.
Sad. I used to love Russia, a country that had great potential. But it was all washed away for the sick dreams of an old man.
I will never understand his decision to return to Russia.
Mass murderer Putin eliminated another critic.
?Dies in prison? More like murdered by the state in prison.
He was killed in prison by the mobster Putin.
He fell out a barred window
I still never understand his rationale. Hey you were just poisoned by your country’s leader in a failed murder attempt what are you going to do? I think I’ll go back to ruzzia. Where he was immediately incarcerated and effectively tortured for many years until his death.
Although I’m sorry to see a Putin critic die by political murder, Navalny was no liberal democratic reformer or friend of Ukraine. He was just different flavour of русский мир imperialism, and possibly could have been far worse than Putin ever was had Navalny managed to reach the pinnacle of Russian political power.
One wonders, at some point, will there be a bounty put on Putin’s head?
Let’s see what the Russian cowards do now. My guess is the people will do nothing.
