can someone translate this article? Maybe with deepl 😀 ?
That is some fine “subreddit” drama.
tl;dr; The Swiss Post developed their own translation tool. Calls to [deepl.com](https://deepl.com) and [translate.goole.com](https://translate.goole.com) were reroute to their own tool. As expected it is crap, useless, and misses features such as a choice of translation. Deputy-CEO Ulrich Hurni voiced his, also negative, opinion in a company chat. This was promptly deleted.
The users of [insideparadeplatz.ch](https://insideparadeplatz.ch) mention there are good reasons to ban external tools, such as customer confidentiality and prevention of the leak of trade secrets
As someone who works in IT i don’t see the issue here. Companies spent a lot of money for security and you can clearly see that people will always use the convenient way of doing things even if they are not safe.
But way worse (in my opinion) is companies not providing their employees with free docking stations for home office – just get a cheap one from ebay… what could go wrong 😀
Pretty sure the Swiss Post aren’t too keen on confidental documents or mailings being translated through and being stored on a cloud system belonging to a uncontrolled third-party like Google…I know some banks have the same policy
It’s a pretty fair request imo… Just a shame the system has problems..
