Tens of thousands of workers in Florida have just lost their labor unions. More is coming. | Unions representing tens of thousands of additional public sector workers across the state are in danger of being decertified and dissolved.

This is what the sadomasochistic electorate voted for. Well, I’m hope all you clowns are happy you focused on depriving all those minority groups their constitutional and human rights. Now, you get to enjoy being a skilled worker making $10 an hour with no workplace protections. How did voting fascist work for you?
Unions lol. Imagine needing to pay someone to speak on your behalf.
Per article, this was due to a bill:
“requiring most public sector unions to boost the rate of members paying dues or be disbanded”…..”unions must meet the threshold of having at least 60% of members pay dues in order to stay active.”
So, the bill required that union members pay for union representation. Which is standard affair for unions.
Exemptions in bill include law enforcement, firefighter and correctional officer unions.
Not to get political here, this law gained momentum as many people were paying union dues who didn’t want to be part of the union. These employees felt pressured and as if they had no choice. As evidenced by this article, not every union had even 60% support from its members. These people chose to not be in a union and pay dues, basically
Now go after the teachers’ unions. You’ll thank me.
This is good news. Public sector workers should not have unions. It has led to entrenched bureaucracies that are more powerful than the elected officials who are supposed to manage them. It is not democracy.
I won’t be traveling to Florida anytime soo- well, ever.
Does anyone think this might help turn Florida blue? Everything I’ve seen about their economy portends a disaster and most of the policies have been implemented by Republicans.
Florida is requiring that unions recertify via a vote – these unions lost a vote.
Unions are a scourge. This is a great development
Holy shit have we really undone decades of progress in the last 5 years
