A mixture of thoughts:
– Kinda laughing at those who took the vaccine that didn’t need to, thinking they would be free;
– I need to contact my lawyer to check the legal basis for this and what the extent of the penalties will be;
– The dominoes of tyranny are falling in Europe, not even 100 years after WWII, and people in Malta are talking about weed instead.
It’s getting a little tiring. How come the vaccine was enough to allow everyone to not wear masks all summer and now it’s not good enough?
Wouldn’t shock me if a minister owns a company that imports masks at this point
Basically.
>>”Mask-wearing and booster vaccines are effective to contain COVID-19,” the minister said, adding that the measure would become applicable even when walking alone outdoors, in public spaces, workplaces and businesses.”
We are introducing this measure now because while case numbers are currently not catastrophic, when you see the possible impact that increased cases and the arrival of Omicron may have, it’s better not to wait for it to become catastrophic and take steps earlier.”
Seems reasonable.Its either that or we overburden our hospital and start to triage ppl.
TLDR:Masks are as a precaution because they don’t know what this new strain might do.(They are hoping current vaccines have some effect on it but they are playing it safe)
Stupid and useless. I remember being fined on Comino for walking in the middle of the island by myself in the heat in May. I won’t forget this bullshit.
If enough people ignore it, they won’t be able to enforce it.
When you have to wear a mask when by yourself in a field the world has gone mad. Might buy myself something like this https://www.etsy.com/listing/905828163/single-layer-active-sports-face-mask
So – in general I support all reasonable and rational steps to contain and reduce COVID-19, but I don’t think the steps announced, for reasons already mentioned are reasonable and rational. When I lived in Austria, I typically supported all government measures to contain COVID in the situation they were in at the time, so I’m certainly not a COVID-denier, anti-masker, or anti-vaxer.
If it’s feasible for me to generally maintain a distance of 2m from others, then I shouldn’t be required to wear a mask. It’s feasible for me to do so, if I’m out in the country, and there’s nobody else around, it’s feasible to do so if I’m walking along the seafront, and the nearest other person doing so is about 50m away, and it’s feasible for me to do so, when out for my morning walk, before most of the rest of the population have woken up. There are right steps, and wrong steps, and this one; having to wear a mask out side, when it’s feasible to maintain a 2m distance from others is in the latter category.
I think a less extreme variant of this rule would make sense. Requiring a mask on crowded streets would make sense. Going from not requiring a mask outside at all, even on the crowded club-streets of Paceville, to requiring one while walking along the Dingli cliffs is bullshit.
I’m glad I’ll be leaving Malta for Christmas, and I’m hoping that by the time I return in January that this requirement will be lifted.
Seems like as soon as tourist season is over, it’s back to cash generation through mask fines. This is hurting Malta’s reputation and making it unattractive to foreigners.
As far as I can see, there’s no reason to enforce a mask outside but be maskless in a bar. It’s a total joke, and I’m not going to comply.
Ready to outrun any LESA officer who waddle/ toward me. I’m not even sure it’s legal under EU law at this point. This is basically oppression.
I don’t like it much but it’s the law so we must comply
