Nicolas Cage may be reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir in a live-action TV series.
The Ankler has reported on the status of multiple live-action co-productions from Marvel and Sony in the works at Amazon. This included an update on Spider-Man Noir, and it was reported that “Nicolas Cage is in serious talks to take on the lead role in the series, which will be set in 1930s New York City.” Also stated was that Sony declined to comment on the report.
“Spider-Man Noir, often simply referred to as Noir, is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Part of the Marvel Noir universe (Earth-90214), this alternate version of Spider-Man is a noir-themed take on the character and emerges in a version of New York during the Great Depression. While investigating a smuggling ring, Peter Parker is bitten by what seems to be a highly-venomous spider housed inside a spider-god idol. Falling unconscious, Parker has a vision of the spider-god promising him power. He then awakes inside a cocoon and emerges from it, now possessing super-human abilities similar to a spider.”
The Spider-Man Noir series was first announced in February 2023. At the time, it was reported by Variety that the new series would follow an “older, grizzled” version of Spider-Man that would be set in its own universe. There was no indication at the time that Nicolas Cage would potentially be involved with the project, but the actor does have experience voicing Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Sony’s upcoming series at Amazon will introduce the first live-action incarnation of the character.
In recent years, Nicolas Cage has appeared in films like The Retirement Plan, Sympathy for the Devil, and Renfield, along with a CGI appearance in the polarizing DC movie The Flash. He was most recently seen in the acclaimed film Dream Scenario, which was released by A24 in November 2023; the actor’s performance put him up for a Golden Globe Award. A trailer was recently unveiled for Cage’s next film as well, with the actor playing a serial killer in the upcoming horror thriller Longlegs.
Another Marvel-Sony live-action series in the works at Amazon is the Silk: Spider Society series, which has had a bit a of a bumpy production. The Ankler’s new report on Spider-Man Noir also claimed that Silk is now going through a creative overhaul behind the scenes, and the rumor is that the series is “being refocused with a more male-skewing audience in mind.” All of the writers have reportedly been let go to restart development, though the showrunner, Angela Kang, and one co-executive producer have remained on board.
There’s no word yet on when Spider-Man Noir or Silk: Spider Society will see a release on Prime Video, but for now, fans can always revisit Nicolas Cage’s time voicing Spider-Man Noir by watching Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
I would love that.
Wow I’m psyched for this! Loved “unbearable weight of immense talent” if In remembering the title right… he really carries these things
Not sure if
Noooooooooooooooooooooo
Or
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
Like with not needing Madem Web, who is asking for Noir?
TOO MANY SPIDER MAN MOVIES
Wherever I go, the wind follows. And the wind… smells like rain.
Offspring voice “You gotta keep him animated…”
This is being produced by Sony, not Marvel. So expect Morbius & Madame Webb quality.
Use the sin city visual style and it could be neat.
It its like a ridiculous sin city graphic novel style movie i could see this
They’re going to run the Spider-Man brand worth to
The ground.
I’ll be honest I’d love his voice in an animated spider noir movie so much more. But if they go full on sin city with it I would be down
