Eventually, the people in this country are going to be fed up with being stalked and victimised by these criminals.
When the general public realises that all public disorder and violent crime comes from only a rounding error of the population i.e 2 or 3%. And that protecting us is the easiest job ever, there’s going to be hell to pay for the people in charge.
The systems and those in power genuinely care more about the rights of violent criminals than the rights of the innocent, tax paying, law-abiding citizens that they brutalise.

Looking through the article, it appears the problem was they couldn’t gather enough evidence to prove intent.
He was acquitted on a charge of Inflicting Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent in 2022.
So they had another go at getting him for grievous bodily harm without intent.
Maximum sentence for that is 5 years (while maximum sentence for With Intent is life).
So basically, they couldn’t prove intent so they dropped the charge down to at least get him on SOMETHING.
I’d have to see the Judge’s commentary to understand why he got 3 years rather than the max of 5.
Is that all he should have the Keys chucked away he’s destroyed a Life before it had a chance to Live

It’s because he was conviced of “grievous bodily harm without intent”.

Somehow, the defending lawyer convinced the court that losing your temper means you’re somehow not in control of what you’re doing.
In general, one shouldn’t trust the Daily Mail. And it would greatly help public understanding of justice if sentencing remarks were routinely published.
The key points of why this sentence is given, picked out of the Mail version;
1. The Conviction is for the less serious form of GBH, and is based on there not being conclusive evidence of intention to cause this level of injury.
2. The evidence appears to be that it was a brief attack, not a sustained attack. No suggestion of premeditation.
Those two factors point to the 3 year sentence.
If there was evidence of a sustained or planned attack with intent to cause this injury, a far longer sentence would have been given.
Whether or not it should be longer largely depends on whether you think we should punish for the intent behind the act or the consequences – the former says this is about right, the latter this is far too short.
But can get 10 years for credit card fraud. Yeah, the system is not broken, ok.
