Hopped on a Bus Eireann bus recently, tried to buy a ticket with card.
Driver: We only take cash.
Me: You’re joking
Driver: And why would I be joking?
Ehh, because Lasercard came out in 1996 or something? Bus Eireann is one of those Irish businesses that exists purely to provide the absolute minimal service to squeeze as much profit out of the customer.
I’ve been using Dublin Coaches for my weekly commute for 2 years now, absolutely spoiled I am. However, it has never – not once – been fewer than 45 minutes late.
Dublin Bus passengers: “First time?”
As long as you know the timetable is fiction they’re pretty solid honestly, maybe I just have Stockholm syndrome though.
I treat them like a gambling service really, like “ooh I’ll check the stop and maybe I’ll get lucky and a bus will be there or almost there”, otherwise you’re fucked. And I assume the bus will pass me unless I do a really good job at presenting myself practically licking the stop post
I swear buses only stop and wait till their appointed time to leave a stop when I’m on it already and running late
Me and my wife were waiting at the stop and two buses came one behind the other, I wanted to get on the bus behind. I showed hand to the bus behind, the bus didn’t stop. 😡

Had a guy like this on the 206 a few years ago, I was convinced he was singling me out it happened so often. Waiting at the bus stop and he was just short of waving at me as he passed me standing there in the rain.
Fourth time this happened within the space of a month I politely sent a strongly worded email to bus eireann, with the gist being “not telling you to fire him, but if you insist on hiring cunt drivers, don’t put them on the rush hour route, lost count how many times that fuckers made me late for work.” etc. etc.
All I got back was – “bus capacity is reduced due to covid, so that’s probably why he always cruises past you” – in an empty fucking bus.
kicked off a bus because I had a child leap card and that I “didn’t look like one”
I had just turned 16.
I’ve seen death threats, liquid shit, puke, McDonald’s leftovers and people stoned out of their mind trying to talk to me about the afterlife on Bus Éireann
The fucking 18, I’ll say no more
Decided many years ago to never ever again step foot on Bus Éireann
I do not reject my decision.
This should be an instantly stackable offense for what the useless pricks are paid. The sooner we automate out bus drivers, the better
I feel like I’m in the minority but I’ve been blessed by the best route in the country by all accounts. Rarely late and the soundest regular drivers in the business.
They’re not all bad!
Missed my connection once in Cork. No staff around desk was closed. It was shocking and not even late. It was a case of fuck you you’ll have to pay for a hotel for the night
And the bus leaving literally as the train arrives, so you have the longest possible wait time for the next one.
They have one job and it’s literally spelled out on signs what they have to do at regular intervals
Yea one told me I was late to get on the bus even tho I was there an hour beforehand they be smoking some hard shit if your telling me I’m late to get on your bus even tho you just arrived
Bus eireann are so shit, one time I was trying to get home with my little sister and both the website and 2 ticket machines had broken so I couldnt get back, didn’t have any cash. Explained this all to the bus driver who took the chance to scream at us 🙂
On the other end of the spectrum, I had a hospital appointment in town and a Dublin bus driver got another bus to pick me up so I’d make the appointment on time because his route was too long… They are actual legends
FUCK THE C STRAIN
Made me think of a local non-BE bus service. Soaked after a brutal rain, huddled with the masses at remote stop the bus just careens past. I think he saw the despair in my eyes because in the last second he gave me a nod and a point backwards.
Boom 3 minutes later another bus shows up and picks up me and the other sodden dregs.
Those utter madmen at the independent bus company decided to deploy an extra bus due to increased demand.
Imagine that.
A few days ago a bus stopped for me even though I didn’t make any indication (no other people, I’d just rounded the corner when the bus stopped. It continued right as I walked by.) I think I stole your bus. Sorry
I really don’t miss taking the bus.
In the pre-covid days I used to try and get on a bus 4 stops before the last. The ones that did stop were always surprised anyone wanted to get on ‘for only 4 stops’. a lot of buses didn’t stop and I walked, with a buggy.
this has happened a few times to me. why they do this? I couldn’t tell you. they’re mostly cranky auld bastards who hate everything. I have no idea why they’re all so pissed off all the time
I had serious accident once on a bicycle, rear wheel shattered so I was unable to do a wheelie while dismounted and push bike home, which was 10 kilometers away. Tried to ring a van cab but none were available as it was 9pm friday.
I have tried to take the bus but was denied because bicycles are not allowed. He saw state of me, bruised and some blood, my bike destroyed which I explained to him how this happened. Bus wasn’t even half full. He told me it’s prohibited because people need to have space to move around, I told him I can park my bike in the middle of the bus where there is most space, which there was plenty, he denied me. Had to drag my bike 10 kilometres for 1.5hour, was exhausted afterwards with sprained wrist that reminded itself next morning with full force. I know bus drivers deal with scum on daily basis but he was scumbag himself. Fuck that bus driver.
The bus to Ongar was 4 hours late once (a quick stop into town on my day off n all). At the end of the stop the driver stopped the few of us left and gave a small speech that should support their strike action for next week for better pay and conditions.
Is that a rheumatoid arthritis convention!?

“What? Why not?”
“Legally, you would be their ticket holder, and because you will get getting off the bus before them, there would be a distance where the ticket holder would not be on the bus. I cannot allow this.”
After I promised him that I would *accept responsibility if it ever came to court*, the power-tripping bus driver let the tourists on the bus.
Dublin Coach a no-show. I call them.
“Yeah it’s because of a diversion.”
“What? Why not tell people? I book online so you have my email address at the least.”
“It was on social media.”
“Was it on YOUR social media?”
“No. But I saw people talking about it on Facebook.”
This happened to me the other day?? Tf.
Have they reduced the numbers allowed on buses or something?
I don’t know about the rest of the country, but in Galway the bus timetables are only (in the voice of Captain Barbossa) Guidelines.
Same thing happened to my wife on 245. I raised an official complaint with the NTA and Bus Eireann. They don’t make it easy but if people don’t complain

Looking at their timetable is like throwing a deckchair of the titanic. I wonder would complaining work, we’re not very good at it I know but we could get good. Everyday verbally telling them off, an agreement that everyone who experienced a late bus gives out, twenty people raising their voices at every stop, imagine working in that. “It’s not my fault.it’s the” only to be cut off “..no, you stop making excuses for everything” An attitude of , this is not good enough, letters to the HQ, letters to the local TD, petition to have bad drivers fired, zero tolerance for shit.. a great big IM AS MAD AS HELL AND IM NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE!

If we had a bigger train network this wouldn’t be a problem as a train always stops
They did this to me one time while I was at a stop and I ended up having to sprint through town to the next stop with my toddler on my back and when I mentioned he passed me he just said oh that was you absolute moody basyerds half of them.
