Netanyahu has ‘left the door slightly open’ for a new deal • FRANCE 24 English

I think a lot of people here are hoping that there’s movement behind the scenes of course Israeli society and politics is profoundly divided on this question um but there’s a sense in which you know even when Netanyahu comes out saying that to accept the hamus proposals for a

Framework deal would be to surrender to the ludicrous demands of hamus kind of left the door a slightly open or a jar for agreement on another deal so not the opening Gambit from hamus if you like but perhaps other other things and and you know talks are continuing a hamus

Delegation uh traveled to Cairo in Egypt this Thursday to try and get some of this boiled down into perhaps points that that Israel could accept and there’s the the pressure that’s been continuing every time I’ve been out here reporting you know you hear so much from the families of the hostages who are

Getting increasingly desperate um various political voices people saying look you know we have have to do some kind of deal this is not realistic you’ve got Netanyahu talking of going on towards absolute Victory and the farri Wingers in his government also talking about that but you know behind the

Scenes make no doubt about this that there are talks continuing and options still being looked at about whether there could be a deal sometime in the imminent future and just very briefly uh the pounding of uh gaza’s Southernmost city of uh Rafa what’s the latest on that yeah people there are absolutely

Terrified growing increasingly worried about this war which is once again closing in on them not that it’s really ever gone away they talk about the sounds of explosions and bombs in Rafa they’ve been talking about that for months now and people who fled there have fled multiple times been displaced

And you know people saying they’ve got nowhere left to run so if the Israeli Army does push further south into Rafa then that could be catastrophic for them there not only in terms of the devastation for the civilian population which is already you know many of them have had their homes already destroyed

But what it could mean for the delivery of Aid that Aid has been coming in through the Egyptian border with Rafer after being inspected by uh Israeli troops but that’s where it’s been coming in through so that would make the humanitarian situation even more precarious

Catherine Norris Trent, FRANCE 24’s Senior Reporter reporting from Jerusalem, said that even when Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu called Hamas’s cease-fire proposal “ludicrous”, he “left the door slightly open” for a new deal. Talks are continuing behind the scenes about “whether there could be a deal sometime in the imminent future”.

In Rafah, people are “absolutely terrified” about this war, said Trent, adding that many had already been displaced a first time.

  1. Israel society support nethahanu for his foolish decision. So war will not stop what he will earn finally? Nothing he rule has? What use ?

  2. Netanyahu is playing the West, especially the US and we are effectively held hostage by them. I keep hearing from France 24 about Israeli hostages and very little about the poor Palestinians of which there are far more.
