Child benefit should be taxed to fund early years services, says employers’ group Ibec

  1. I genuinely fucking hate IBEC. Anytime I see them put forward a proposal it’s nearly always “how to limit employer responsibility to employees or limit our expenditure, and slowly drift towards a nightmare hyper capitalist hellscape”

If it was up to IBEC the country employment regulations would be worst than the yanks.

  2. It seems like people are only reading the headline.

    >“Other countries, such as the UK, have moved toward taxation of child benefit payments above certain thresholds and redirecting the tax take into direct supports,” says the Ibec submission to the Commission on Taxation and Social Welfare.

    >“Existing child benefit payments should be maintained for low income families and tapered off for higher income families using the tax system.”

  3. Isn’t Child Benefit generated from tax, as are all benefits and welfare of such kind?

Might as well just suggest lowering child benefit.

  4. If IBEC said it, it’s a terrible idea and hasn’t been thought through fully. They shouldn’t even be interviewed or reported on in the news any more.

  5. Social welfare payment shouldn’t be taxed IMO. It just feels wrong to me to tax payments which people on the whole absolutely need.

I imagine all this would do is further deprive children who are already at poverty line.
