Be careful when you ski, always be in control of your speed and remember: the person below you has priority.
That said, I think it’s been a long time since I’ve seen some really reckless skiing on the slopes (french alps), when that used to be all the time when I was growing up. Are people more careful now ?
There used to be English flocks drunk from lunch skiing dangerously all over the place in Val d’Isère a danger to themselves and to others. Perhaps now they stay in the restaurant ? Or they learned to ski ? Who knows.
Serpentines is terrible because it’s on the edge of the domains and everyone. EVERYONE get there and it’s crowded as fuck. You have to had that it’s almost flat which means if you don’t take speed, you’re going to be stuck in the middle at some point and it will be dangerous.
The guys is definitely responsible but it’s absolutely not black & white like the article, as always in ~~British~~ US press, would like to paint it.
Wouldn’t this be an involuntary manslaughter? In common law countries we would probably consider this reckless bodily harm causing death.
Also, I imagine the girl’s parents can file a civil case suing him for compensation, on top of the criminal responsibilities.
Why is it even possible to get high speed in an area were the children trained? It must have been a green slope with grades between 6% to 25% right?
One would also think the children should be in a different slope from were the adults are skiing.
This is tragic but also clearly not intentional. I always feel bad for people who manslaughter. It can literally be any one of us.

Sad manslaughter
>According to eyewitnesses, the suspect was skiing “at high speed” over a “a slight bump” before he crashed into the little child, identified only as Ophélie. The girl was taking a lesson on a Blue beginners’ slope in the resort of Flaine, in France’s eastern Haute-Savoie department.
The accident occured in “serpentine” which is not a blue beginners slope. It’s the highest slope of the domaine of “[Grand massif](https://www.alpsaccommodation.fr/Downloads/Samoens%20Grand%20Massif%20Piste%20Map%202022.jpg)” (see at the top, left of grande platières 2480).
Kids of age 5 shouldn’t be there to learn. [Flaine](https://data.ibtimes.sg/en/full/54529/flaine-ski-resort.png) is equiped with 2 large school teaching areas. Their learning station is were greens slopes are.
