Poverty rate in Iceland is between 5-8% depending on the source. Average for US is 12% (and this is vastly underreported); UK and EU, closer to 20%. Outside opinion (I’m an American): It’s wonderful and beautiful that even with such a low rate, Icelanders are still thinking about how to make things even better and fairer. It’s a great example of what I admire about Iceland. But in the global scheme of things, Iceland is definitely NOT “so poor”.

It’s pure ragebait. Yes, there are poor people here, just like in every single country on Earth. But *Iceland* as a whole is certainly not poor, especially in comparison to other countries.
Asking “Why is Iceland so poor?” is an inane question on the same level as “Why is the US military so weak?” or “Why are Danes so unhappy?”
