The Russian prison agency announces death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny | DW News

Russia’s Federal Prison Service said in a statement that Alexei Navalny felt unwell after a walk on Friday and lost consciousness. It said an ambulance arrived to try to rehabilitate him, but he died.
Navalny’s press secretary said they haven’t been informed of his death, and a lawyer was on the way to the prison.
A spokesperson for Vladimir Putin said the Russian president has been informed of Navalny’s death but the Kremlin has no further information at this point.
Navalny was a staunch critic of the Kremlin. He was arrested in 2021 when he returned to Russia after receiving medical treatment in Germany for what medical tests showed was a nerve agent poisoning.

  1. Being in Russia is bad for your health, especially opposition of any sort. But he didn't want to leave his homeland. Rest In Peace Mister Navalny. You died for what you believed in sir: a better & freer Russia. Maybe one day…

  2. Since he already knows how Russia is, he should have just kept quiet and live a peaceful and successful life. He is a lawyer by profession.

  3. This is Soo sad to see. People running for office giving their thoughts on a better country for the people. Only to be taken from this earth for trying to do what he believes in….
    Rip.
Russian politics is Soo corrupted, he's not the first person, and if the government of that country doesn't change, he won't be the last

  4. So interesting to read foreigners' comments who are claiming him as a hero. Why is he a hero? Normal Russians understand that sabotage is not that makes one a hero

  5. You cant stop Putin unless he wants to stop, they're powerful beyond measure, their resources are loooooooong! Such a power can only be defeated from within, and that is not going to happen because Putin has an iron grip on everything. Like it or not, respect your "enemy"
