“Why Ford and GM Are Scared of China’s Electric Cars” It’s just the next version of what they have always been afraid of, competition.
So scared they aren’t even trying to sell them now because they know Uncle Sam will save them
Remember way back in the day when there was similar xenophobia about Japanese cars? Some would pay to bash a Honda with hammers back then. In the end the US manufacturers had to adapt and improve. Looks like the same thing today. We now have a small selection of overpriced EVs that qualify for the EV tax credit and are increasingly unaffordable. BYD has cars that are good and significantly less expensive. American companies will have to adapt or perish. BYD is seeking to set up manufacturing in Mexico. But “the powers that be” will be working hard to keep them out of the US market forever.
Because the Chinese EVs are really good and the Ford and GM EVs are NOT.
How about you make better products?
This is only partly is why we’re hearing so much pearl-clutching over dumping and the “unfair” tactics of China. But only on greentech. No one cared about protecting jobs when it came to toaster ovens or TVs. But on those products specifically that would reduce the burning of fossil fuels, now protectionism rises from the grave to save the beleaguered, sainted American worker. I’m only hearing this on BEVs and solar panels.
