Ukraine’s political and military leaders are anxiously focused on Washington—and are gravely concerned about the fate of money and munitions that are badly needed.
If Congress won’t pass funding why doesn’t western Europe just pay the US to supply weapons to Ukraine? Congress won’t block arms sales. If western Europe paid the US $200 billion they could provide Ukraine all the weapons they need. Better still, Europe could just seize all the Russian money in Belgian clearing houses and pay that to the US for arms shipments.
Sure, it would be better if the US funded the weapons supplies themselves, but the weapons supply issues would be fixed if Europe just paid for them.
It all depends on how important a Ukraine victory is for western European leaders. If they think a Ukraine victory is imperative for the security interests of their nations then they should be paying money to the US right now for arms shipments to be sent immediately. Otherwise they can just build up their domestic weapons industry over the next 10 years so they are in a better position to defend Europe once Russia has conquered Ukraine and has it’s troops on the Polish and Romanian border.
The USA is losing worldwide. Cowardice and complicity.
The congress should have a requirement that everyone must do their jobs, and not misuse their positions to jockey for the next presidential election.
Something like penalty points for every issue representatives fail to resolve within a fixed upper timeline, leading to one less seat for their party in the upcoming election.
I am not one. But remember that there is republicans who support Ukraine. Heavily support. It’s a handful holding it back when it comes down to it.
If Republicans allow Russia to take Ukraine, they will be responsible for economic losses to the United States comparable to what or grandparents *would* have lost if they had abandoned Japan or Germany at the end of World War II.
It’s also being led by an open fascist who openly praises fascist Russia. It’s not exactly a mystery why the GOP has suddenly realigned to fit Donald Trump’s preferences.
What is it about their decision to withhold support that will win voters? Who wants Ukraine to lose? I honestly don’t get their strategy

Bald faced lie! The legislation concerned provides money for 2025 and will not immediately impact the war. Even if Ukraine got the money today it would not help the ammunition shortage. American and European factories are at maximum output and cannot keep up with Ukrainian expenditure. You can’t buy more of something when it doesn’t exist. It’s like giving money a wad of cash in the middle of the desert so he can buy more water when he runs out.
Ukraine needs men too and 60 billion won’t buy Ukrainian men willing to fight in a suicide mission.
Zelenskyy the comedian won’t draft the under 25’s and if he did they’d all flee to Romania.

Serious question: if the EU considers this to be so desperately important, why don’t they pick up the slack? They could cough up another hundred billion or so and use it to buy weapons from the US. Why is it America or nothing?

I think they feel Zelensky was insufficiently deferential to tRUMP. It is a cult, and the dear orange leader was unable to get what he wanted from Zelensky, so they side with Putin. Further US fundamentalist christians see Russia as a Christian Nation that fights against Muslims which they see as helpful to Israel. It is wrapped up in a weird theology, 1/2 to their god tRUMP and 1/2 to progress towards the apocalypse.
Are we likely to see aid increase before the election in November? If not, how long can Ukraine hold out? Also, I’m assuming Biden will win the election, and when that happens, will aid increase?

the problem being the Democrats know this, the Republicans will admit it and meanwhile nothing will be done to change it.
I believe some in the GOP would even sell out US troops in active combat if would help. That party is wretched to its core.
