I am a British citizen and want to join my Italian husband in Berlin in July. He has lived there for around 6 years, and is self-employed. I understand that I can enter Germany without visa or anything (usual tourist thing up to 90 days) and should get the Anmeldung within 2 weeks, then apply for the Aufenthaltskarte.

On the Berlin Service site where you can book residence permit appointments, they don’t mention any proof of income/ financial means as required documents ([https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/324282/en/](https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/324282/en/)). However, there is a question about this on the application form.

Will we need to show we can financially support ourselves? My husband doesn’t make enough money to support both of us, and I am just finishing my studies in the UK so won’t have any proof of income. (I am actually planning to study in Berlin and get scholarship for it).

Or is financial info not actually needed for this application?

Thanks in advance

  1. If he has a work contract, that’s all you need. Otherwise, you’ll need bank statements with enough money and health insurance. You can get one from Feather, it’s fairly cheap.

From the UK or Germany? If Germany, have you research scholarships here? They are few and very competitive.
