It is valid to criticize specific Israeli actions or politicians, but when someone uses the word “Holocaust” to describe the war in Gaza, it is a deliberately antisemitic expression meant to minimize the suffering that Jews endured during WWII.
There have been no concentration camps in Gaza. Contrary to what TikTok says, it was not an “open-air prison,” as Gazans had full autonomy to do whatever they wanted except cross the border, an enforcement that Egypt maintained even more strictly.
There have also been no gas chambers in Gaza. While it is fair to say that Israel should do more to avoid civilian deaths, that is completely different from intentionally massacring groups of people.
What is happening in Gaza is not a “holocaust,” it is a war, and one that Israel did not start.
Good, Lula can suck a duck.
Netanyahu called it their 9/11.
Lula is doing the bidding of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) block, which includes Iran. He was one of the founding heads of state in the early oughts.
Not a surprise he would simp for Putin and Iran.

Is anyone surprised that a BRICS country is being a mouth piece for Iran, Russia and China?

Lula is getting senile, Jesus fucking Christ.
We need to be neutral and not fuck ourselves as a country.
Yeah that was pretty dumb of him.
I’m sure repeatedly bombing and shelling what’s left of Gaza isn’t harming the hostages.

He had some awful shit takes on Ukraine too.
As a brazillian, I feel ashamed, Lula is a convicted criminal…
Lula should address Jews around the world making it clear that his association was inappropriate, and there would be no demerit in doing so. To the Jews, yes, to Netanyahu, as the political leader of a government that today practices a murderous policy in Gaza, no.
It is a political mistake because it is already having an international reputational cost for Lula, which is gigantic and this should be on the president’s list of concerns. I think it was a really thoughtless statement and there is an intrinsic error in the association. The Israeli government commits war crimes and I consider Netanyahu a war criminal, in addition to being a criminal under Israeli law. Netanyahu should be in jail for the crimes committed in Israel, but the comparison with the Holocaust is a mistake.
When you make this association and evoke the Holocaust, you don’t evoke just anything, a small thing. The Holocaust must remain as a kind of limit of horror, which does not mean that it cannot be overcome because we must not doubt the human capacity to produce absurdities in the world. But even if it is to condemn the war crimes committed by Israel, the Holocaust should not be evoked even to condemn the carnage committed by Israel. Lula should apologize to the Jews around the world, but not to the Israeli government, because a war criminal president and a criminal under Israeli law is obviously using Lula’s wrong phrase to gain political advantage, that’s what he wants.
Let’s compare the Gaza war with the Holocaust.
Holocaust: Launched as an antisemitic and unprovoked genocide campaign. There were over 6 million Jews killed, out of a European population of about 9 million, about 66% of all Jews in Europe (or about 50x more than Gaza by comparison). There were no military or terrorist deaths. The few who resisted were killed, but don’t number very highly, and make up less than 10% of the dead (if I’m being incredibly charitable; I bet they didn’t even make up 1%). Those Jews were defenseless, and slaughtered in gas chambers, bullets in their heads, etc., **in an industrial way**.
Gaza war: Launched in response to 10/7. There have been ~28,000 deaths, or about 1.4% of the Gaza population. That’s according to Hamas. The best statistics we have available suggest Israel has killed over 10,000 members of Hamas. Many of the dead civilians have been killed because they were being used as human shields, or were killed by Hamas rockets falling short on Gazans themselves, like the Al Ahli Hospital (where one rocket killed over 100 Gazan civilians). Comparable wars with urban fighting, in less dense areas, with a less entrenched enemy, with less use of human shields, frequently see up to 90% of casualties be civilians. In this war, the estimate is somewhere closer to 60% casualties, even ignoring that some of those are due to Hamas rockets.
While individual Gazans may have been killed by soldiers acting illegally in a few cases, this is not the norm or the policy. If it was, then Israel would not have dropped over 60,000 tons of bombs and killed less than 30,000 people, many of them terrorists. When the Allies bombed Dresden in WWII, they dropped 4,000 tons of bombs and killed 25,000 people in two days. When the Nazis liquidated the Warsaw Ghetto, they killed over 250,000 Jews (50-75% of the Jewish population of Warsaw at the time) in less time than this war has gone on. Israel has dropped 15x more bombs than the Allies did on Dresden, a less dense city, and killed roughly the same number of people, many of them terrorists. This suggests clear distinction and targeting of terrorists. If Israel wanted to treat Gaza like the Nazis treated Jews, Gaza would not just be flat, there would be over 1 million casualties, and likely closer to 1.5 million.
There are less than 30,000.
Brazil’s Lula has disgraced and inverted the Holocaust to attack Jews with its memory. It is deliberately antisemitic to do so.
