This will become a target if they start to pile up at the border, especially if there is ammo on board. Either from an “errant” russian missile, or a russian agent (paid or employed) having a “smoking accident”.
Ukrainians are fighting for their freedom, but beyond that European democracy is at stake. So they say. On the other hand, democracy and a free society means that any idiot can hinder or derail any important common goal!? A conundrum as old as democratic rule itself.
