BP, Shell, Vattenfall and Ørsted win leases in Scottish 24GW offshore wind tender

  1. One thing the British government has done well in is the push for wind power. They’ve been doing this investment for nearly 10-15 years now. For example Scottish and Southern Energy is a big player in this market.

    We can criticize the British but they made admirable progress on wind-power.

    The Age of Oil will eventually have an end date. It might be within our lifetimes these kinds of investments pay off.

  2. For context, the entire UK grid uses approximately 42GW.

    These new developments added to the capacity currently being built (approx. 8GW) and operational (approx. 1.5GW) should take care of the majority of the UK’s energy needs.

    It looks like Scotland will be staying an energy powerhouse in the renewable age, which is wonderful to see for someone who was very stressed about the decline of the oil industry in Northern Scotland.
