What Is Behind Prince William’s Unlikely Friendship With Cate Blanchett?

Prince William has struck up an unlikely friendship with Hollywood A-lister Cate Blanchett. The pair have been no stranger to each other in the past, having met on the red carpet for a variety of film premieres and special events including the Hobbit in 2012, and the Royal Marsden fundraising gala in 2014.

However, it was their shared passion for the environment and a determination to tackle climate change that saw them become friends. When Prince William launched the Earthshot Prize in late 2020, the multi-award-winning actress joined the ‘Earthshot Prize Council’ to help steer the climate initiative throughout the year, as well as helping to judge the annual Earthshot Prize.

The pair were reunited at the British Academy Film Awards 2024 where the Prince and actress sat together through the star-studded awards show.

    It's great to see Prince William out supporting the British film industry. They've given the world many of its finest works and artists over the years. 👑💖
