If they would stop cramming in every little tech do-dad that does nothing to provide basic a-to-b transportation, that would be great. A basic car without so much preinstalled gadgetry would be start. Focus on what people need and then make something good and cheap.
This is a major problem in America. We have come to associate environmentalism with a “lifestyle choice,” as a matter of personal “virtue” or effort. This means the wealthier will adopt it, because it is a symbol of personal virtue they can consume. While the working classes see it as an indulgence they can’t relate to, because it’s so associated with “virtue”-status. Of course the market caters to this dispensation.
Remember, there’s always an incentive for the bourgeoisie to seem socially conscientious. Because it makes them appear forward thinking, active, and innovative. Those traits are what advances them in their careers.
We need to persuade people that conservation is a rudimentary function of civilization, not a consumer lifestyle habit.
Typical Detroit’s small greedy mentality. 1980 all over again.
If only we could convince people and government to properly invest in public transport and high speed rail so we’re no longer beholden to greedy car companies.
