Dear peeps,
lol, we fucked up all the money, goan, give us sum moar!
yrs.
B. Ends
Councils taken for an absolute ride out of desperation, but unfortunately don’t have the experience or competency to pull it off. Obviously the taxpayer foots the bill.
>reduced road and grounds maintenance
Cars are going to vanish into potholes and mountain bikes will need crampons. And Britain is going into recession… Like we need major infrastructure projects to boost the economy…ah, wait… As you were…
Christ Brummies in a bit of bother.
Now Bradford pls hold your shit together so I don’t get mugged like them in my first year of paying tax cheers.
The phrase “omnishambles” shouldn’t be used too liberally, but this whole debacle is one of those occasions.
How can they have one so large without a referendum?
This is going to be Brutal.
The Core Children’s services Budget is about £329 million. They’re taking near enough £60 million out. 40% of Birmingham’s children live in poverty.
Council’s provide services to the most vulnerable. These cuts will be felt by those 40%.
Well done labour. As usual you have shown us your complete ineptitude and wanton disregard for the people who put you in charge. .
Doesn’t excessive council tax rises have to go to a public vote?
Lmao 21% increase for no improvement in services. Just sack the council and start again.
Well given how much councils have had their funding cut, is anyone actually suprised??
Would love to know how much ‘restraint’ they have shown in regard to the salaries amongst the top 5 percent of council employees?
Seems like that £760M on equal pay is a large wedge
Why do I get the feeling Brum is just a test case and many more councils are lining up to “go bankrupt” to get around the council tax rate rise limits. They have already rinsed business too hard with rate rises that many simply had to close, so now its had a negative effect and the biz rate rises have resulted in net losses to the overall biz rates income figures. .
whatch the tories use this as ammo being a labour run council despite the government allowing councils to increase by large amounts and probably gave the go ahead for this significant rise
21% rise in taxes but services will only get worse, especially social care. Birmingham are the first to go this way but many councils will follow as many councils are on the verge of a Section 114 notice. Other councils will be watching with interest.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Oh fuck. I’m dying over here.
Literally.
21% council tax rise over 2 years
Cutting highway maintenance by 12 mil
Adult social care cut by £23.7m
Children’s Young People and Families department cut by £51.5m
God so many people are going to be utterly fucked
Honest question, does the Birmingham public have no option but to accept the 21% increase. Can’t they just refuse. It does not see right at all for the public to have to fit the bill for poor management.
We were always going to creep into Norwegian cost of living territory after Brexit, just not Norwegian standard of living and salary territory to match.
This is what happens when you have one party councils.
Band D council tax for Birmingham City Council is currently £1,913, which is the 74th cheapest out of 350 councils: https://propertydata.co.uk/council-tax
A 21% increase over two years is effectively 11% more than other councils will be doing (as they can and almost certainly will increase by 5% per year), so would effectively take them to being around 210-220th cheapest out of 350.
That hardly seems unreasonable.
Expecting the public to pay 21% more for less service….thats not going to work.
Would an employer accept this 21% pay rise demand from a staff member
These central government fuckwits need to shake that magic covid PPE money tree and sort this shit out or they’ll be no economy beyond paying bills
Anybody think the Tories want to screw everything up so bad that any social tipping point when people say enough is enough and take to the streets is when Labour are in power? Or am I expecting too much of the average population
I guess that having a city be 50% refugee its not very profitable.
One thing I never understood is why no
Government didn’t handle building an IT system in house with GDS to replace the archaic council bill systems
They did a great job on gov websites
Would save literally every council money not having to implement the same exact system independently
I wonder if all the wimmen in Birmingham involved in the litigation are enjoying their back pay knowing they fucked themselves and everyone else over in Birmingham with an extra 21% council tax.
Was it worth it?
We need wealth taxes immediately or we’re headed back to feudalism. Not even joking.
How much of this is to pay off hosting the Commonwealth Games?
In these unprecedented times, we need to vote Tory. They never had a fair chance. The first 12 years, they were just deconstructing everything. Imagine what they could achieve with yet another term. <3
The mad thing about this is if labour get back into power and actually start funding councils again you just know council tax wont be dropping in price.
The whole thing needs restructuring.
21% rise in tax yet services are going to get worse. Wow what a joke.
