The latest muppets are The AA – I’ve just been informed that they are replacing their “Car Genie” service with… wait for it… “[AA-X](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/aa-x/id6444260554)”. It does “have AI” though, so everybody say “ooooooh” 😐

I don’t know why the X trend bothers me so much, but fuck me.

  1. Not really noticed it past my mum putting way too many at the ends of her text messages to me bless her heart.

Only proper response I can think of though is just short for “Extra” which in this case makes sense with the AA.

  2. X used to stand for eXperimental.

If you look at aeroplanes, for example, the US military had an experimental fighter called the X35. They added some guns, put it into production and called it the F35.

Over time, X became synonymous with “cutting edge”, so now it’s used everywhere to say “Look how high-tech our new product is!” and definitely not “Look at how unproven and potentially unstable our new product is!”

  3. It’s replaced the late nineties trend of -2000. There was a Balti-2000 place that opened in about 97 where I grew up, and they hadn’t changed the name until at least 2015 (might still be the same!)

  4. Probably trying to copy twitter and make it sound more ‘current’.

  5. It’s the natural evolution from ‘i’. Just wait as ‘m’ is coming soon… see mpeople and Mbappe as early adopters.

  6. Misguided attempt to make things seem technically advanced or cool. In reality it feels very 90s.

  7. The one that bother me is the collaboration ones, such as:

    Goose Island x Co-op

It seems to be happening an awful lot these days!

  8. I’m sure it was just like in the late 2000’s when everyone was putting i Infront of everything after the iPod was released

  9. •ITV X

    •iPhone X

•The social media site that I will point blank refuse to call by its new name

    •X Videos

    •X Men

    •y=mX+c

  10. At least the AA have stopped claiming to be the fourth emergency service now.

  11. I think the statement “we collect data” on their tagline says it all really:(

  12. trying to appeal to genx, but we hate them all anyway.

  13. its like the new “i” – When apple made the iPod everyone then started making the iBrush and iLadder

  14. Everything within the universe has to have the “X” attached to it, ever since they rebranded it Space-x

  15. If it has AI, they should have called it AA-I. It was right there!

  16. Honest answer. I think higher ups just think it’s a cool letter
