  1. Combat boats and state-of-the-art combat vehicles for Ukraine

New, state-of-the-art Combat Vehicles 90, Navy Combat Boat 90 and hand grenades are new elements in Sweden’s new military support package for Ukraine, presented on Tuesday. The package is the largest to date, worth SEK 7.1 billion, and comes on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia’s war of aggression.

The package, the 15th of its kind, will be presented at two press conferences on Tuesday. It is intended to be an important signal to Ukraine, Russia and the rest of the Western world about long-term Swedish support for Ukraine’s defense struggle,

The sum of SEK 7.1 billion is in addition to the previous support packages worth a total of SEK 22.2 billion. Defense Minister Pål Jonson (M), MPs Oscar Sjöstedt (SD), Mikael Oscarsson (KD) and Joar Forsell (L) presented the main features on Tuesday morning.

An entirely new contribution is the newly manufactured and state-of-the-art Combat Vehicle 90, which will be ordered from BAE Systems in Örnsköldsvik. Sweden is in the process of replacing the 50 combat vehicles previously sent to Ukraine. Now there will be a longer production series in Örnsköldsvik where Ukraine will have priority for a delivery of state-of-the-art vehicles with both a better level of protection and the latest electronics.

This involves about 35 newly manufactured Combat Vehicle 90. Of these, the majority, 25 vehicles, are financed by Denmark and 10 by Sweden for approximately SEK 1 billion. The vehicles are of the same type that the company produces for the Netherlands.

For the Swedish Armed Forces, which until now have had 40 mm guns on their Stridsfordon 90, this means a transition to 35 mm guns on 50 vehicles. This is a smaller barrel diameter, but on the other hand it allows more rounds to be carried in the vehicle’s magazine.

Another new feature is that Sweden is donating boats from the navy. Around 10 of the amphibious corps’ fast Combat Boat 90 are being donated to Ukraine. The boats are suitable for combat and troop transport near land and on Ukraine’s rivers. In addition, approximately 20 group boats, which are smaller boats for transportation, will be donated.

A weapon system not previously donated to Ukraine is the anti-tank missile 55 (TOW), which is now being sent. Also new to the support are hand grenades used in the increasingly fierce close combat on the ground. According to military experts interviewed by DN, the Swedish hand grenades are more effective than those currently used by Ukraine.

Medical transport vehicles are also a new contribution. In previous aid packages, Sweden has donated medical equipment and the Robot 70 air defense system, and further deliveries are now being made. This also applies to the Carl Gustaf grenade launcher.

The most pressing issue for Ukraine’s defense is the lack of artillery shells. These are mainly 155 mm diameter shells, which are used in the Archer guns donated by Sweden.

The production of 155-mm grenades is the largest financial item in the aid package, amounting to SEK 2 billion. This is a collaboration with other countries to assemble components currently in stock into new grenades.

In addition to these material gifts, around SEK 1.5 billion is allocated in the package to various funds. This will make it possible, in cooperation with other countries, to quickly purchase the drones that Ukraine needs, for example.

The Armed Forces will also be tasked with the long-term training of Ukrainian troops. The details will be presented in the afternoon at a press conference and combat demonstration at the Amphibious Regiment in Berga. The Minister of Defense, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) and Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson (M) will provide further information.
    Advanced weapons in previous packages

Sweden has sent some of its most advanced heavy weapon systems to Ukraine: 50 Tank 90, 10 Tank 122 (Leopard) and 8 Archer artillery pieces – plus ammunition and spare parts.

In addition, the anti-aircraft missiles 70 and 97 (Hawk), anti-tank missile 57 (NLAW), anti-ship missile 17 (Hellfire) and anti-tank gun 86 (AT4), rifles and protection and demining equipment.

  2. Hope our steel serves your country well! 🇸🇪❤🇺🇦

  3. The hand grenade mentioned really is the motherfucker of hand grenades. It’s called spränggranat 56, and it’s not something you want to be near when it goes off.

  4. Hopefully with the protection of the soon to come NATO-mambership our commitment can increase. Like the Danes that have commited to send all their artillery, we should think of doing the same, and some more.

  5. Thanks, Sweden.

Paradoxically, but Ukrainian war helped to many European countries to better understand themselves. Not to mention overall European rise of cohesion by mass-remembering about pan-European values. Or, more precisely, about risks of their absence.

Before the war, Sweden wanted to become some regional, or even World’s, humanitarian leader, moral authority.

But morality not some theoretical abstraction as almost all other cultural aspects, it’s also part of biological empathic apparatus. Real thing that exists for real things.

So when Sweden begun to move away from practical empathic morality to theoretical, institutional/bureaucratic one, it also started to move away from achievement of own goals. To somewhere where now Austria and Switzerland.

Ukrainian war, smell of barbarism and fanaticism ammonia, brought Sweden, as and almost everyone else, back to Earth. Where… Moral/ethical problems still the same as they were always – foremost results of rudimentary instinctiveness, ignorance-stupidity. That self-evident.

But what not self-evident – recent evolution of answers to these problems.

Richard Feynman once said that “If you can’t explain something to a first year student (or child), then you haven’t really understood.”

In theory, to achieve some humanitarian leader status, Sweden should be able to explain to the poorest countries in the World how exactly, not theoretically, but practically, they could achieve the Swedish standards of living. That not really too much difficult:

    1. Sociocultural evolution – heir of biological one. Ideas/memes as like animals, and after countless iterations of “survive the fittest” was created ecosystem with the most adaptive sociocultural species: Golden Rule of Morality, Rationalism, Humanism (/Rational Humanism), Secularism, Rule of Law, Democracy, Freedoms, foremost – Freedom of Speech (information transaction costs) and so on.
    2. To understand and start using (via more long-term and more Win/Win social strategies) of which needed understanding of complex abstractions and rational thinking that could be achieved by Academic Logic. And basic understanding of human nature (oneself in others and others in oneself) that could be achieved by knowledge of Cognitive Distortions, Logical Fallacies, Defense Mechanisms.
    3. To understand of which needed…

And there, until recently, was a huge problem. How to get people to study something that has no practical application and immediate benefits?

The answer to which recently given modern technologies.

If people could use smartphones and Wikipedia to read information about Academic Logic, Logical Fallacies, Defense Mechanisms, or even something else (as base Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, IMDB-250 as universal base of social strategies and information for training of emotional intelligence), then why overcomplicate more?

If such knowledge could be tested by voluntary tests created and checked by Open Source, why overcomplicate more?

If the main motivator for passing of such tests could be just peanut money from government or philanthropists, why overcomplicate more?

With such approach, a huge number of problems that previously were unsolvable due to organizational reasons now reduced to just question of money availability. That also not a problem, because rise of social Human Capital create money, and sometimes even markets, by itself.
