This isnt that shocking, is it? We’ve heard about the sanctions for years but there’s a reason its called the military-industrial complex. 😑
who would have guessed that shipping arms to rebel groups in an attempt to over throw governments you dont like would result in said arms ending up in the hands of those governments you dont like?

American components, European components…all made in Taiwan!
As long as there’s money involved there will always be people ready to sell stuff to the highest bidder. Not much you can do about it.
This war is not black and white, between Russia and the West. For example, Russia still sells gas and oil to Europe and some countries, and also sells nuclear fuel to the United States, while generating income.
We live in a truly globalized world. It is what it is
Quick question here that I have everytime when I read these news of our components in Russian tech.
Don’t these chips have serial numbers that can be traced back to the producer and ultimately in which charge these chips have been sold to which customer?
There’s no way North Korea is buying these components directly. If you read the article you see they include Chinese components too. Its likely they bought them all in China and imported them from there.
Something needs to done about this, Chinese has been aiding North Korea and Russia for too long.
It’s interesting to see just how reliant they are on imported parts, and also that so few of them are Chinese. Not sure whether it means that China still doesn’t offer viable substitutes, or that circumventing sanctions is too easy to even consider Chinese alternatives.
It’s unfortunate that they chose to base the percentages on the individual component count, instead of the number of different components. This way, we only know that six out of 294 are Chinese, even though it could be just six copies of the same single component (Taiwan 1, Netherlands 4, China 6, Switzerland 7, Japan 9, Singapore 10, Germany 35, USA 222).
If I had to guess, at least some of the Swiss components are probably GNSS (GPS) modules and/or microcontrollers, for example. They get sold via distributers in huge quantities, and they’re often used in mass-produced inexpensive consumer products that don’t cost much more than those components would cost if you bought them individually. Desoldering isn’t much of an obstacle if you only need missile program quantities and have government resources, even if this government is North Korea’s.
Globalization baby. Zero surprise. None.
Once owner of Telegram messenger Durov refused to share keys with Putin to read all the people’s messages in case of “terrorist attack” prevention, so Putin tried banning Telegram. To what Durov replied that terrorists use the alphabet to speak as well.
I just want to say that it’s not a genius’ problem that his invention is used as a nuclear threat to the whole world. Intelligent humans will make this technology work to push humanity to the next level, while crazy maniacs will use it to just hit someone with it like a barbarian.
A Russian using North Korean weapons made with U.S. and European parts, while wearing knock off gear from China fighting a Ukrainian who could be a Canadian as there are foreign troops present using NATO backed weapons all the while the world looks on. Fuck that’s a lot of moving parts. Talk about chaotic.
And so the industrial war complex grinds on, and only the people at the top get paid
If anyone thinks these companies are directly sending anything to North Korea, Russia, etc, they are exceptionally naive. They may originate in the US, but can easily be bought by shell companies or others, who then sell to NK/Russia.
A lot of Russian bots here talking about globalism. Yikes
Omg a weapon of death had something to do with America? Weird.
Of course they contain products from the US and Europe. They wouldn’t be able to make a missile without them. There are of course export controls in place to stop this, but there are plenty of unscrupulous people around the world that have no problem acquiring that technology through back channels and selling it to some of the more nefarious players on the world stage for a nice hefty profit.
Here’s an example. A company in China is making a product that uses some of the components that go into that missile. Maybe this product cost $100 and they need 1000 pieces to build up their order what they do is order 1500 or 2000 pieces and then sell the excess product out the back door either directly to North Korea or through another intermediary. This is how parts arrive on the gray market which of course is unregulated so there are few rules in place.
Eventually, North Korea probably winds up paying $1000 for this hundred dollar part but they are able to get it. Same thing happened with the old Soviet union and communist China.
And here we see the drawbacks of a globalized world. Because of our endless global network of connections, one could say it’s impossible to prevent weapons and technology from disseminating into the wrong hands.
War is $$$.
Thats awkies you guys
With everything made in China couldn’t russia just have China take the parts off the factory floor and hand them over?
Why is this news? It’s SOP. America and every other country has done this forever.
Too many people clearly did not read the article, and are unaware that the “US and European components” are electronic components, such as chips, that were produced in “China, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States”, with the overwhelming majority being linked to the US.
Regardless, the lack of control over these components once they leave the manufacture and change hands multiple times, is still a real problem
Here’s the article that CNN is referring to: [storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/0814c6868bbd45a98b15693a31bd0e7f](https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/0814c6868bbd45a98b15693a31bd0e7f)
Dislike!
We in the West are literally that dumb.
