Hi,
This is an update to my previous post. I received this letter today. What should I do now? From what I understand, I will not be fined as long as I fill this form.

  1. You have to give your personal details in any case (1.), other than that you can but don’t need to say anything else. It seems like you already explained what happened so I doubt it’s of any use.

No, not sure why you think that.

  2. What makes you think answering the letter will rescue you from paying the fine ?

  3. It says you get another fine if you don’t answer the first question. Not that you don’t get a fine.

  4. It is written that it’s based on your cooperation and statement it’s decided if you get the fine for placing the trash beside the trash can. But I guess since it’s a clear case and they found your stuff in the trash, they’ll fine you anyways. Can’t imagine it will be expensive, but if you can’t pay at once, they’ll surely will work out a payment plan for you.

Fill out the form and send it back, or you’ll get another fine for not cooperating.

Nothing much to add I guess.

  5. Use the form to make a statement apologizing and explaining that you are a foreigner and weren’t aware of how to deal with the full container, wrongly having made the assumption that it’s ok to put your trash next to it because you have observed others doing it. (I assume that is the truth and what actually happened)

Tell them that you are sorry about your mistake and that it won’t happen again – and hope for the best. Maybe they drop the fine as you have been proactive and shown to be understanding.
