I can answer this where-as many would be confused.
In the USA, we have the Bill of Rights. Now I know, at least half the country doesn’t believe in them anymore and I get it. Free speech is a bitch, especially when you don’t like what is being said and would like to silence them.
Its because of the Free Speech , #1 Amendment in the Bill of Rights that people can spend “unlimited cash” on campaigns and basically run ads to say what they want, or “Free Speech” that is about that candidate good or bad.
If someone gives you money to do something in an official capacity, yep, thats a bribe. However, if someone comes to you and says “We are you friends and will run advertisements on your behalf”, as long as it NOT tied to the campaign thats Free Speech.
You say “Steve, but why is this illegal in other countries”, and that answer is equally easy. They DO NOT HAVE FREE SPEECH. This is why in Canada, they can send Jordan Peterson off to a “re-education camp” so he can learn to call a man a women, and thats specifically why we have the Bill of Rights, is to also stop “compelled speech”.
All you Socialist types will be very familiar with “compelled speech”. This is basically “loyalty oaths” that Communists like to have everyone sign, and you see that in China and Cuba. Everyone is required to sign and swear by loyalty oaths to the one party they have.
I thought this was an economics sub, not a left wing propaganda sub.
Citizens United specifically excludes oligarchs – they’d be free to lavish money, Soros-style, to thier hears content. It only attacks the private sector.
