Wandsworth Borough Council has said it will freeze its council tax rate, making it London’s lowest council tax borough

1. Im in Wandsworth! They did increase it last year though.

3. I used to live just across the border into H&F, when Wandsworth had the lowest council tax in the country.

   Come local election time, Labour’s campaign ran “Don’t make H&F like Tory Wandsworth!” while the Conservative campaign went “We’ll make H&F more like Wandsworth!”

   At least they agreed on that. Quizzing them on what Wandsworth was like was quite entertaining.

4. I suspect it’s only possible because they receive lots of government funding. My borough of Kingston practically gets nothing and the council tax rates reflect that.

6. Wandsworth has no historical debt to pay back. This is due to it being the darling borough of a certain Mrs Thatcher. It was Tory for about 40 years.

   Someone above said the council tax went up here last year. The Mayors portion went up (across all London), but the councils portion did not.

   Anyway, the key to lower council tax is lower council debt.

7. I’m actually really dissatisfied with Wandsworth council. They don’t maintain anything…the little cycling infrastructure that is in place from the tories has not been maintained, they dropped the pedestrianization of Northcote Road and other election promises have not been fulfilled. Yeah council tax has not increased (except for the gla portion) but otherwise nothing else has gotten better

8. First time I paid council tax properly was in a three bed in Wandsworth – £600 a year between us.

   Got a proper shock when I moved into a two bed in another part of the country – I actually doubled checked the amount as I was surprised council tax was so expensive
