The methodology is a little iffy.
You got the reasonable stuff, deaths from conflicts, number and duration conflicts. Terrorism etc.
Then you get a little silly, how much you spend on your military, number of prisoners, number of police, military trade. Heaven forbid you have nuclear weapons, that’s a big no no.
Iceland is ranked so highly because it is small and effectively outsources it’s military to NATO.
As a Norwegian seeing Norway at 24 make me want to move to our brothers in Denmark. Norway going downhill fast…
This reminds me of the nice guy debate. Are these countries nice because they are too weak to pester anybody or do they have the the capability, but choose not to.
For as much as I complain about Portugal (and there is *a lot* to complain about), I do appreciate that it’s a place where I feel safe. Sure there are rough areas, and it’s not like crime is non-existant, but at least I can say I don’t feel anxious walking around at night, or worry about pickpockets, or think about the possibility of a terrorist attack, or serial killers, or school shooters. It’s nice to have peace of mind in that respect at least.
