And now the Russians have something to laugh about.
Have we got any point sticks we can use? Can’t fuck that up surely.
I quite enjoy the idea of the submarine commander being informed that the missile plopped in to the sea.
Well at least it was a test and not the real deal. Aren’t the missiles supposed to be all drawn at random from US stocks?

I thought the title meant that Grant Schapps was onboard the missile….
The only deterrent we truly have is as dependable as a soggy biscuit holding itself together in a cup of tea. Not surprising though since no manufacturing base for decades and clearly a shortage of skills. We spent millions on these new nukes a few years ago and they are basically bricks. We are truly lucky no one is taking aim at the UK public and the enemies of the UK realise it is our leadership and not the public that are the problem.
A good thing we all suffered through austerity so we could afford to upgrade them!
Things fail, it happens. Aslong as they can gather data on why it failed it will improve reliability going forward
In an era of misinformation and propaganda, we shouldn’t really be telling the public about this kind of thing. It gives the wrong signal to the British public and the wrong signal to Ivan.
One Trident misfire does not mean we don’t have ~~stationary~~ working nuclear missiles ready to turn Moscow into glass if they get silly ideas.
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Very well, if you walked into a nuclear missile showroom you would buy Trident – it’s lovely, it’s elegant, it’s beautiful. It is quite simply the best. And Britain should have the best. In the world of the nuclear missile it is the Saville Row suit, the Rolls Royce Corniche, the Château Lafitte 1945. It is the nuclear missile Harrods would sell you. What more can I say?
Jim Hacker: Only that it costs £15 billion and we don’t need it?
Sir Humphrey Appleby: Well, you can say that about anything at Harrods.
Trident is drawn randomly from a stock of missiles also used by the USN, we were just unlucky and drew a duff one.
Of course the media will now try and spin this into a story about the incompetence of the armed forces, despite the fact that this had the same likelihood of happening to a USN SSBN.
The missiles are even maintained ashore by the septics, if their defence budget couldn’t make the thing launch, then nobodies could.
Id be test firing another. Then another And if they all go plop, then I’d be asking if the stock we randomly pick from is actually the real stock or if trident is actually a con.
How many billions have we handed the US for this shit? We should have stuck with our own technology. Black arrow was more reliable than this and the whole program cost the equivalent of a mere £100 million in todays money.
“*We’ll give you a big discount on your launches if you give up your launch programme*”…”*oh, no discounts for you seeing as you gave up your launch programme*”….”*here buy some of super expensive SLBMs for your subs*”…”*Oops, sorry we made you look worse than North Korea. Thanks for all the money though.*” – United States.
I’ve never been so fucking embarrassed for my nation and that’s saying something. Right now, just when we need to show that we can at least nuke something and then this! There better be some bloody heads rolling for this and some flipping massive refunds! Garbage, absolute, garbage sold to us for billions under the conditions that it’ll work when needed. Twice in a row!!!
“But they’re blanks aren’t they? They’re full of blanks?”
(Philomena Cunk)
Well at least we only spunked a trillion nicker on it
Can we take a moment to acknowledge the source is The Sun?
What insane.. is we’re talking HUNDREDS of billions in twx payer funds.. thinking we’re “now safe because we have a deterrent” ..
This shit ain’t funny..
It’s a good job we’re close friends with Putin. Well the Tory party is anyway.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if England was conquered by 4 Somali pirates in a row boat.
We constantly mock North Korea for this sort of stuff
Sounds like a nuclear sub crew bravely willing to take one for the team to rid the nation of shapps. Looks like heroes to me. o7
Context: this is a new nuclear missile from the joint missile pool between the US and UK, further more, this is only the second failure in the 100+ tests of the trident pool. Further further more, it’s not the issues of our subs
> A TRIDENT missile dramatically misfired and crashed into the ocean yards from the British nuclear submarine that launched it … A source said: “It left the submarine but it just went plop, right next to them.”
A plopping projectile doesn’t sound very dramatic
Ok we know this Country’s gone to shit.. but why do we have to have it confirmed by the toilet paper called the Sun and their 50 word journos
The yanks maintain our missiles. Or they’re meant to..
