Erdoğan: Turkey ‘committed to EU membership’

  1. I did not know that Erdogan is a comedian. I thought he only collects comedians, especially the ones who make jokes about him.

  2. Won’t happen, Turkiye’s population is too large and would upset the balance of power in the EU parliament.

  3. >”*Turkey, which is geographically and historically a part of Europe, is committed to its target of becoming a member*,” Erdoğan said during a meeting with EU ambassadors in Ankara

A joke breaks the ice, Erdo knows that obviously.

  4. Add North Cyprus to the EU.

Then tell Ankara that the EU will provide provisional member status for parts of the forests and fields and prairies, and mountains, that need long term ecological restoration management.

And see if Ankara can do that successfully.

  5. His actions contradict his words. Claiming that he wants to join the EU while taking Turkey away from EU values doesn’t make sense. Why is he doing this? Is it for domestic purposes because nobody in the EU is going to be fooled? It’s hard to see what kind of psychological processes could be at work here. His AKP followers are probably not very enthusiastic about joining the EU. Is he trying to placate the business community in Turkey? Is he hoping to stabilize the economy by promising closer relations with the EU?

  6. Why is this important for Turkey? Is Turkey willing to follow European principles? Poland and Hungary have been struggling with EU interference with how they deal with LGBTQ. I’m guessing this would be worse for Turkey.

  7. The same guy who forgot to give the (female) President of the European Commission a chair? And withdrawing from the Istanbul convention for women’s rights. Literally signed in Turkey.

    Yeah pass.

Turkey has no concept of EU values.

We give chairs to **both** men and women here.

  8. Is he confused again? EU is not the sultanate he ‘s looking for. I thought he was going to be a member of pakistan? Or of the transturanic caliphate? Or of the revival of the ottoman africa? Or some kind of china union?
