The FSB in the central Urals city of Yekaterinburg said it had “suppressed the illegal activities” of a 33-year-old woman, a resident of Los Angeles with dual citizenship, and taken her into custody.
It said the unnamed woman had been “proactively collecting funds… which were subsequently used to purchase tactical medical items, equipment, means of destruction and ammunition for the Ukrainian armed forces”.

Open season on all westerners and those who are seen as being in cahoots with the west.
There are zero reasons to travel to that shithole.
Cue in entitled people with no contact reality and their incessant screaming how every single Russian is a horrible human being and it’s so easy to rebel Russian government and how they are evil people for not overthrowing Putin…
Hehe, i have 2 apartments in Moscow and i donate to ЗСУ money from rent. So, it makes all those peeps who pay me- also a part of that bad guys. Nice.
Hope that the US intervenes and put them to the ground for this bullshit!
It’s her money and she can do whatever she wants with them!
People there are punished for treason. Meanwhile we have so many idiots here defending the madness that goes on in Russia and they can just keep doing that. Also, the fact so many political parties of the right spectrum, especially notorious the Republican party, support the cruelties committed by Russia and are not sanctioned for it… Now say what you want about freedom of speech. We are also in a Democracy and being able to stand by the dictator’s side should have consequences…
Woah based
I would love to go to Russia, but really can see going right now.
These kind of news are so insane when you think about it but most people have been numbed down because of all the ridiculous things Russia pulls on the regular
Just how insecure is Putin? It’s like the Emperor ‘s New Clothes.
Doesn’t surprise me. Dumb thing to do while in Russia. Should have left.
She’s brave for donating money, but at the same time, you must be very naive to think that just because you’re a dual-citizen, you’ll be protected. Being a dual-citizen and living in your other citizenship country will not protect you from the law enforcement and the Americans will basically just shrug shoulders, because whilst she may be American, she was most likely a Russian first and it’s always been said that your secondary passport will not save you if you commit a crime in the eyes of your other passport country. She may have believed that her American passport would save her from being arrested.
I bet 51,80$ some of people rescued by prisoner swap will go back to Russia on their own.
How did they trace her donation?
It’s certainly unjust, but she must’ve known the risks. She’ll probably spend the rest of her life in prison, when she could’ve just stayed home.
$51 is a lot of rubles, so makes sense
If you hold a passport of any western nation, you do not go to Russia regardless if you donated or not. Not for tourism, not for personal matters, not for anything at all. They openly say that they are “at war with the west”, do you ever travel to the country that has declared a war on you? They need hostages and there’s zero reason for making it easier for them. Some people really think it is some funny game and that the horror stories would never happen to them. It’s time to fucking wake up.
this subreddit would applaud the probable arrest of anyone who would donate to russian army from ukraine… so hypocritical
Well yeah that would be considered treason to donate to the country you’re at war with
Can US citizen donate money to some country that US consider “enemy” or “terrorist”?
Ksenia Karelina.
Well, she did donated to armed forces… not humanitrain aid.

Lawyers group [Perviy Otdel](https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/20/world/europe/russia-arrest-us-citizen-treason.html), also known as [First Department](https://www.thedailybeast.com/la-woman-ksenia-karelina-arrested-in-russia-after-giving-50-bucks-to-ukraine), claims that the woman is specifically accused of transferring $51.80 from an American bank account to Razom, a nonprofit which describes itself as “contributing to the establishment of a secure, prosperous, and democratic Ukraine.”
