But they are not. That’s the thing. There are a lot of talks. But is the public transport still abysmal in Ireland? Yes.
Chicken and egg. People won’t use public transport because it’s so bad. Public transport is so bad because of the traffic.
“But Mam, I hate anti-car policies”
“You’ll eat your anti-car policies and you’ll like them, ya ungrateful little shit”
It’s true though. People bitched about greenways until the saw the financial benifit. People bitched about the Sutton to city route and yet even though it’s not finished there’s tons of bikes in it in the morning. If you build it they will come. We have enough cyclists in Dublin to use this new infrastructure.
Calling them “anti car policies” is a bit misleading IMHO. Putting in bus lanes, bike lanes and reducing parking isn’t anti-car, it’s just not prioritising cars *as much as we used to.* We’re still very much prioritising cars, we’re just giving scraps to everyone else as well now.
I’m pretty anti car but some of the things they do are stupid. Like they keep putting plastic bollards up to make roads narrower and taking out zebra crossing to put in traffic lights which just slow everyone down. Some things seem to make it worse for everyone which is obviously not the point
Did the Journal just take a study about cycling infrastructure and twist it to present it as anti-car? That’s pretty shitty out of them.
