  1. Gold remains an important store of value, serving as a hedge and retaining value during economic crises. In 2023, amid uncertainty about US interest rates and continued geopolitical risks, the metal once again demonstrated its importance by hitting a new record in December.

This graphic, by Sam Parker, displays the top 11 countries by gold reserves as of September 2023, based on [data](https://www.gold.org/goldhub/data/gold-reserves-by-country?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAqY6tBhAtEiwAHeRopUopov9obojQXnWOf0690ZuHI55W7W8rfl-QFY8sdCH8nCC4-40iVBoCFkEQAvD_BwE) from Central Banks, the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the World Gold Council.

  2. Imagine our stock if we were united as a country !

  3. Anyone remembers, how few years back. There were tons of missinformation on the internet, how the world should get rid of $, and go back to gold?

  4. Hey, Spain! What happened to your gold?

    (Sad Spainish noises)

  5. So is all that German gold from Jewish teeth, or is that just me watching too many movies and getting the wrong idea?

Edit: why you guys downvoting? Im literally asking. Lmao reddit.

  6. Fun fact, gold was one of Russia’s ways to bypass sanctions, since its trading partners would not accept Russian currency, but would accept gold. That’s why they had the Wagner group running gold mines in Sudan, and why Ukraine has also sent special forces to Sudan to destroy those operations.

  7. Can anyone help me understand, with 11th place in gold reserves and 3rd biggest increase, why is Turkey struggling with high inflation rates and not drawing the image of a country that has a stability not close to the other nations in the picture

  8. Czech / Slovak republics would have much higher reserves if UK didn’t steal it.

  9. I saw couple of years ago a video (or a documentary) which says that US does not actually have the gold it claims to have. That at some point Germany asked for its gold which was kept in US, but US could not deliver it because they did not have it.

I have no idea if this is true or not, it does sound like a conspiracy theory, but it also sounds like something US would do. Does anybody know anything about this?

  10. Puts me in mind of this summary I read recently (might have been warren buffet):

We travel across the world, dig up lots of gold, transport it across the world and then bury it in the ground again.

  11. Some of that will be fake no doubt, carbide has the same mass as gold.

  12. I’m having flashbacks of our last Labour government that sold half our gold reserves when it’s value was super low.

  13. I am pretty sure that USA doesn’t have that much gold, even a lot of articles circulated saying that i mean it could be conspiracy theory but could be true it is not far fetched

  14. Fun fact: only 1.036 tonnes of german gold are actually stored in germany

  15. Could someone explain: Why is it important for the goverment to hold gold? And why some countires (like China) are buying it (and why not more) and are they only buying it from other countries?( if yes, why do those countries sell ?)

  16. how much gold is officially in circulation?

I’ve heard that gold in circulation and gold in existence don’t add up because banks lend out gold while claiming to still have it in reserve. Is it really that big of a problem as this random TV documentary made me believe?

  17. Meanwhile Indian households are estimated to have around 25,000 tons of gold, due to cultural practices of investment in gold and traditional jewellery. Even the poorer households have at least a few grams of gold.

  18. Is the Russian gold counting the Romanian gold they never gave back after “safe keeping” it for so long?

  19. Russia has sold tonnes and tonnes of the stuff to try to prop up the Russian rubble…. Keep it up, keep selling, keep delaying the inevitable.

  20. Why Italy doesn’t sell gold to pay debt? (I’m italian)

  21. One question! are there any ‘gold mines’ in France! asking for a friend!

  22. Did they count Nazi-gold as Swiss or German in this study?

  23. Don’t ask Switzerland and Germany where their gold came from

  24. I wonder how much of the Swiss gold came originally from (Nazi) Germany which was forcefully taken from innocent people during the reign or Hitler

  25. 2333t in Russia
    – the bastards should give us back the gold they stole or no matter what we should always veto lifting the sanctions after the war ends

  26. Wait, how’s Germa-… Hold up.

Edit: ok, on google its because of some “economic miracle” in 1952 during the time of the gold standard.

  27. Did Germany gather that amount after ww2 or the allies just let it stay there? Sounds a bit idiotic that some of the allies economies were in shambles after ww2 and they just leflt the gold there for the German people.

  28. Tons of gold b/c during the crazy growth during the 50’s and 60’s, Germany exported way more to the USA than it imported.

Instead of German workers earning good salaries, the money was diverted into dead shiny rocks to suppress wages.
