The strange and somewhat counterintuitive part of all this is that in a democracy, a leader would have to worry about wholesale, pointless death in a war of choice. Russia is sending hicks and ethnic minorities to be cannon fodder, so Putin doesn’t really have to worry about the political blowback from the casualties in Ukraine. So even if Ukraine is adequately supplied when the spring thaw comes and adopts tactics involving killing the maximum number of Russians instead of holding the maximum amount of land, it would not shorten the war appreciably…as long as there are rubles in the ATMs and food in the stores in the big cities.
this is really a dumb question, but, what if zelenskyy just say “ok you won”. that would give Russia permission to hold the territories it got until now?
It’s almost like there is a war going on. Almost.
Well the military wisdom is to train like you fight so it seems that the Russians are following that advice
