You can’t have a nice bike. You can’t have a nice watch. You can’t have an iPhone…
You can’t have a nice handgun to stop this.
If only there was an organisation of people with special hats and powers to arrest people.
I’m sure they would be quite useful.
Luckily for me my bike is probably worth about £50 by now. Back breaks don’t work (the handle has a hole that let’s the wire just escape) the chain also keeps skipping in the lower gears. It also looks rusty. But apart from that it runs well.
Our company announced today that the value of the bicycle scheme voucher has been raised to £4k. So yea, that does make them a target if being ridden around town..
The sad bastards even go for cheap bikes. The very first day I locked up my £50 old banger at the train station, when I returned the D-lock had deep angle grind marks in it and they even snipped the break cables.
Police aren’t funded enough, we need more funding and more officers.
Pretty sure it doesn’t have to be worth thousand of pounds. Saw a guy on Lime bike carrying a road bike one handed near London Bridge. Looks pretty suspicious lol and the bike looked well used bike and not fancy at all… anything goes really.
This story seems to have been doing the rounds for a few months. Clearly it’s happening but compared to the number of people cycling it’s likely very very low numbers. Same with phones/watches. But of course stay vigilant etc…
Lucky if you see the police anymore. A neighbour was violently mugged for their phone, police had no one to send out, even though those responsible had been spotted elsewhere. It’s a free for all right now.
Using mopeds to steal bicycles is like using guns to steal knives.
They need to have undercover police like they’ve done with those ones walking around with nice watches (no doubt replicas) pretending to be drunk.
bringing the third world vibes to London. You can’t wear a nice watch, nor ride a nice bike, because you’ll get mugged.. Cops are too busy raping women and sending dirty jokes.
# Moped gangs targeting London cyclists
pick pocketers targeting tourists
thiefs targeting luxury watches
grooming gangs targeting the young ones and woman..
London is like gotham city..
Being sold to Russians!!!!!
I’m a police officer in the Met. Unfortunately the senior people in the Met decided to disband the central units that deal with 2 wheeled enabled thefts/robberies and knife carriers and in turn have basically reduced proactive capability in the capital to pretty much zero.
Met says thoughts and prayers
> Some riders have resorted to only cycling in groups in an effort to avoid the criminals, who are seemingly working with lists of bikes worth taking, The Times reports.
> Scott, 49, said he was riding his £15,000 Pinarello Dogma bicycle to the park at about 5am in mid-December when “two guys idled up to him on a motorbike and one said ‘it’s on the list’.”
I think it’s worth me covering up the brand of my bike when I cycle in Regent’s Park early in the morning.
Motorcycles have been stolen at extreme rates for years, making insuring many types absolutely prohibitive. Now they’re going after expensive bicycles.
The police need to wake the fuck up.
This is why I have w £250 fixie from decathlon – it’s great
Have a D lock clipped to your bike as it makes an excellent weapon.
A few years ago this was very common against motorbikes – the police not totally ignoring the obviously stolen scooters riding past them giving them the finger helped a bit.
ITT low effort shitposts you’ve read a million times before, being presented as profound pearls of wisdom.
Well duh, a nice carbon bike costs up to and over 10k now.
And they know the police will do fuck all when stolen.
Which is why I always cycle with a bike tool that doubles as a weapon now. You’re not stealing another bike off me
Put an enforcement officer at a couple of traffic light junctions which cyclists always ignore, £50 on the spot fine, use that money to crack these gangs. Win win.
