Maybe I have had bad luck but I have tried different therapists for depression over the last 16 years in Switzerland – so cold, not good listeners, not much empathy, so rigid with everything.

I heard about this therapist from a friend who went to her in Geneva and loved her and omg she’s so good. I also am struggling with money (highest franchise so forget it with lamal) and she’s said no problem to pay her 60 CHF per session if that’s what I can afford even though I know her usual rate is 150. Ngl sometimes I prefer to do sessions online and she doesn’t mind and we zoom.

It’s so fucking nice to be treated like a human. I think I hadn’t realised how discouraged all those previous experiences with therapists made me feel and how hopeless.

Just wanted to tell you if you’ve been through bad experiences, you can find the diamond out there because I never thought I would!

Edit: a lot of people asking for her contact. Here’s [the website](https://www.genevawellbeing.com). Idk if she’s taking new clients.

  1. Great to hear, best of luck with your therapy! 🍀

  2. honestly i dont know

“it is what it is” kinda kept me sane for the last years.

  3. can you share her name? I can’t find any competent ones:(

  4. 2 reasons so many are terrible:

    1. Ton of therapists studied psychology to understand their own issues and never solved them

    2. Populations average IQ is 100. In my eyes, a good psychotherapeut needs to be smarter than any doctor to connect the dots and analyze things. Doctors are already at a high average, there simply isn’t as many suitable people.

  5. Mental healthcare in Switzerland puts the “Suisse” into suicide.

My friend has been told she’s too smart to have ADHD. My meds have been switched in an incorrect ratio, sending me through a three months long depressive episode until I did my own research and checked with another doctor. So many other fuckups by medical “professionals” that shouldn’t have their licenses anymore.

There are good ones, ofc. I respect my GP immensely, because she has the words “I don’t know” in her vocabulary and will do research or ask a colleague. I had a very good experience getting diagnosed by a specialist recently. It’s all about the specific people.

I also have a theory, that once a doctor gets their license in Switzerland, that’s it. Nobody questions them anymore and nobody checks if they are still capable, if they still should be a doctor. If anybody knows more about this, I’d be glad to have more info.

But also it’s totally normal to go through a few therapists before finding one that clicks. I’m glad you found one. Wish you all the best 🙂

  6. Because seemingly every 5th person in this country is studying psychology. I see the same trend in other countries. It’s a field that tends to attract the degenerates of society.

  7. I’m planning to go to therapy here but reading the comments really demotivating me 🥲

  8. Do you know why?

Because the psychiatrist section of education is one semester. That’s all it takes to specialise. (one of my neighbours is a psychologist in training and she says she’s had to work under some truly awful psychiatrists).

So you get lots of people that have not done any training in psychology, just the usual medical education, going into mental health.

They match symptoms, prescribe medicine you may or may not need, but have no chance of actually helping.

When it comes to psychotherapists, I’ve always had better experiences with women than men. Women are naturally more empathetic, I think.

  9. LOL I had a *psychiatrist* here in GE who quite literally fell asleep on me in the middle of one of my sessions. Full on snoring and everything. He also made the astute observation that I wouldn’t have half my problems (I have ADHD) if I’d just make lists. Gee! Which list would he like to see? I have 50 of them, but I never remember them when it matters…

  10. Imo how good or bad a psychotherapist is depends on your expectations and what you’re trying to achieve. Don’t expect your therapist to know everything and to help you out with everything that is wrong in your life.

With each therapist I’m trying to take away the most I can, learn as much as possible about myself and about new techniques/ideas. After max two years I’ll look for a new one to bring in a new perspective and to tackle my problems together from a different angle.

My opinion is the same thing everyone would tell you about regular doctors, i.e. “consult a second doctor”/”get a second diagnosis”.

  11. 60 per session sounds like a dream, lucky you! Those 150 per session made me leave, even though I was in the middle of an important step in my psychotherapy, because I couldn’t really afford it. Highest franchise as well so can’t rely on that. I think therapy shouldn’t be so unaffordable, I know many people who need it but are in a bad position financially and can’t afford it, that’s too bad.

  12. Could i also have her name via DM? I am alao looking for a good psychotherapist as i dont feel very well sincrle a while 🙁

  13. If all you’ve been finding are bad therapists, how did you change your criteria for therapy over the years? Are there any red flags you have for therapists? Any likes/dislikes? Who do you look up to and what do you need from a therapist to feel secure in their advice? Did you communicate your dissatisfaction with them? How did they react? Most importantly, what makes *this* current therapist good?

Therapists are hit or miss, you gotta find someone you click with. I wanted someone who was *fun* (which is a conscious choice), so I went to someone who uses holistic approaches (body perception, role playing, meditation) and they had a couple of music instruments and mattresses in their office, and have been pretty happy about it. I mean, it really depends on what you’re looking for!

  14. You are lucky you even found one, in my canton (Neuchâtel) they told me to come to the psychiatric emergency at the hospital if I was not doing good because all psychiatrists and psychologists are fully booked. I ended up having to go to a psychologist in Geneva but it wasn’t practical and I just deal with my problems myself for now.

  15. therapists / psychiatrists are like kebab shops. 90% of them fucking suck.

  16. I once saw a psychiatrist for a while and his sole treatment plan for my severe depression was talking about my dreams with me. Not life goals, literal dreams. He then constantly forgot important details about me and my life and couldn’t remember if he tried pharma therapy with me. Complete waste of time and money.

  17. Seeing a lot of people looking for a good therapist here.

Found an absolutely amazing psychiatrist recently in Zurich, who also does therapy (which is fairly unusual). If anyone wants the recommendation, feel free to DM me.
