£22.50 to watch Oasis headline at Knebworth in 1996, supported by The Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, Kula Shaker, Cast and Dreadzone. 125,000 people there, luckily I was near the front.

  1. Wasn’t even a big Oasis fan but the documentary on this is excellent and puts into perspective how massive the whole thing was. Some great points of view from fans who went.

  2. I remember a couple of years earlier when I lived in Southampton they played the Guildhall, £15, the same night Carter the USM played the Uni.

My bus stop into town was opposite what was then the Uni’s main entrance – and there was a massive stream of people going to the Carter gig including all my mates.

It was before Oasis had really hit the big time.
Decent crowd in the Guildhall but not a sell out, Oasis were a bit slipshod tbh, did wonder at the time whether I’d picked the wrong gig, especially as Carter were apparently very good😄

Of course a couple of months later they went nova, and I’ve never let anyone forget I made the right choice. 😂

  3. 1996 was a brilliant time for music, wasn’t it.

I went to one of their Loch Lomond dates and it was absolutely amazing.

They flew in by helicopter and the setting for the gig was just unforgettable.

It may be a case of rose tinted specs but everyone just seemed so happy back then.

  4. Saturday had the best support – Manics, OCS, Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy. Plus it didn’t rain lol..

  5. That would be £150 now a days. Maybe more for vip tickets.

  6. i was on their guest list in ‘94.

got to hear sound check too.

liam walked straight past me, chasing his roast dinner.

after the gig, he asked my brother where he could get some gear from.

i met the band after that.

  7. According to the Bank of England inflation calculator, that cost is equivalent to £42.99 today.

Can’t imagine festival tickets go for that now though.

  8. Me and my mates went to loch Lomond instead, great setting for a gig.

Edit – talking of oasis ticket pricing, I saw them atanchester academy in December 1994 and it was £8.50🤣

  9. My dad still has a ticket stub from when he saw Queen.

    £3.50.

  10. I’d kill to see Manic Street Preachers in this era. I was only a toddler, but the music strangely impacted me to the point when I rediscovered them as a teenager I couldn’t get enough.

  11. We went on the Saturday. Had already seen them twice at this point, the royal court Liverpool whilst I was still in school (around the time they released whatever) and Maine Road

An overriding memory was the fact it wasn’t just beach balls getting tossed amongst the crowd (the bags of piss being a particular low point), also we missed the bootleg Beatles due to the coach driver getting lost.

The gig was ok, It was more about the occasion imo, John Squire during the encore (I think it was the encore, was mashed by this point) was cool.

That whole period was great for gigs, seemed like every few weeks we would be at the royal court and the uni in Liverpool or the MEN and Apollo over in Manchester.

Another gig which was a major highlight being the verve at Haigh hall

  12. The other big benefit of those days. I bought the tickets from the ticket counter in my local Our Price.

  13. 7.50GBP to see Led Zeppelin at Knebworth in 1979. Best 7.50 I ever spent!

  14. I was at the back and even struggled to watch the screens. Such a waste of money. It was excellent

  15. and this week my brother asked me if i was interested in ACDC tickets for nearly £200 when half of them are dead.

Oasis screwed me and split up the night before i was due to finally get to see them at V Chelmsford.

Only good thing on that day was The Enemy.

  16. One of the craziest stats I’ve ever heard is that two and a half million people applied for tickets for this. Could’ve sold out another 18 nights!

  17. I’ve still got my tickets for old Oasis gigs.

    £9 for the Astoria 1994.

    £14 for Earls Court 1995.

    £16 for Earls Court 1997.

The wildest one I have is for Rage Against the Machine in 1996 at Brixton Academy – £8

Or Foo Fighters at Brixton Academy in 1995 – £9

I’ve got a shoebox full of old gig tickets, some of which you can see here:

I bought a ticket to see The Black Crowes in May as I’ve never seen them before (even though it’s not really the band, it’s just the brothers, but whatever). The ticket was £65, but there was £16 in fees, so it came to £81. And that’s at the Hammersmith Apollo.

  18. I was in the middle, stage left. Nice to see you again.

  19. Did anyone actually like Kula Shaker? I’ve never met a fan.

  20. I was there too. Wish I’d been there on the Saturday – chemical Brothers and prodigy

  21. I was too young to go at that point, but my grandparents house was not far from there so we sat outside on the patio with deckchairs to listen.
