    And yes, VPNs may help circumvent this to a degree, but my concern is that many are not thinking about the bigger issue of their rights and privacy being slowly chipped away at.

  24. So late to the party but this is why I know this will fail spectacularly.

    I am in my late 40’s. I am a pot smoker, have been since my teens. For years I was told, well pot is a gateway drug. I can assure you, nothing about pot made me want to try any other drug.

    What I can tell you though, is that the guy who sold me pot also sold other things. For years that did not matter, but then, because I was a solid hookup for green, someone asked for shrooms. Same dealer, yeah no problem, grabbed a few grams.

    A friend of that friend, hey can you get an O, ask my guy, he is excited to share through me, not directly, yeah, he is happy to provide an O, or a QP (quarter pound, even as a Canadian, that is how we measured) and I could make some mark up. Sweet, easy money!

    Then we had a house party. A bunch of people I did not know showed, dealer friend was having a great time, bathroom was always super busy did not know why. If you do not see where this is going, you are me at that moment.

    Turns out that my guy basically sold pot to be able to access the other markets that my dealer also wanted. And they paid a lot more. So unwittingly I was the conduit to help people get blow and E and ketamine as well as pot. So is weed a gateway drug, no, but the same place you have to get it when it is illegal is also likely the same place you get it with all the rest making the rest very easy access. And that is not good. If you start placing severe restrictions on the basics, people will end up at the far ends if that is the only way they can access it.

  26. It hasn’t worked in any US state where they have implemented this. People either use a VPN, or (especially younger people) will just go to less reputable sites and infect their computer with malware.

  27. This already happened in a few US states. All that’s going to happen is the respectable sites will shut down access from that location until legislation changes, while a couple try to incorporate the new law. A free VPN gets around the blocker so it will hardly affect the adult audience.

    Meanwhile completely unmoderated sites will continue to operate on the front page of google because they are based out of a foreign country. Literally the only thing it does is push younger aged viewers to shadier websites with more obscure porn, rather than keep them on sites that work hard to monitor things like copyright, revenge porn, deepfakes, abuse, etc.

  30. Read the article folks. He simply answered yes to a lengthy question which was later clarified that they just want sites to make ask people to self verify they are of age which basically already happens.

    Do not get your news from TorontoCity Headlines. My infant child could cover more unbiased news.

  31. Going to be a tough election.
    Elect a guy brought up with a silver spoon bringing in millions of un-skilled immigrants, and doing nothing with the housing crisis; or piece of shit whose only policy is to beat down oppositions without a plan of action.

    Either way the next election goes – we are fucked as Canadians.
