My local Military Shop in my town (who I previously shared last year sent over all their Helmets to help the War Effect) was recently gifted this beautiful Shell Trench Art, I know it’s probably difficult to read but can someone please possibly translate it. 🇬🇧🤝🏻🇺🇦
It says Kholodnyi Yar (that’s 93rd brigade) on top and their motto which translates as “Never retreats and always returns” or “Never backs down and always returns”
**COLD RAVINE (COLD YAR)**
🦅🌾
**NO ONE RETREATS**
**WE ARE ALWAYS COVERED**

** I am not entirely sure about the last line. I can’t see what the very first word says it could be WE or BUT or THEY. Second word is definitely FOREVER … but the third word feels almost like a typo? It could be WE ALWAYS RETURN?
Холодний Яр (pron. Kholodniy Yar, trans. Cold Ravine)
Ніхто не відступає. (pron. Nikhto ne vidstoopaye, trans. Nobody retreats)
… (from this angle unseen) завжди повЕртається. (pron. Zavzjdy povertayetsya, trans. Always returns)
There is a typo in “Повертається”. On your shell it’s written “повКртаєтсья”. “E” and “K” letters on Ukrainian keyboard are next to each other.
That is beautiful!
The concept of “trench art” is exactly what I needed to learn about today. I am not ashamed to admit this fucking war has me upset and tired. I am fairly sure my feeling is universal round about now.
Onward. Trench art.
Slava Ukraini.
Holodny Yar
nihto ne vidstupaye
ta zavzhdy povertayetsa
Cold Gully
No one retreats
and [also] always returns
It’s worded as two separate facts, not a sequence – retreat never happens, returning always does, therefore the inserted [also] to clarify.
It’s specifically gully, not ravine, and theres indeed a typo in “returns” – 4th letter should be E and not К.
Also if you look closely the lower trident is subtly stylized as ЗСУ (ZSU, Armed Forces [of] Ukraine).
Oh another thing before I forget, the same Military Shop I noticed near the checkout there was a box with some familiar Russian camouflage inside, turns out they have captured Russian uniform with the helmet. One of the shop owners friends who went over to Ukraine to fight brought it back, with any money made from selling the uniform being donated to Ukraine aid, zupposedly there is still some Russian Money in the uniform pockets too
