My name is Vikas, and I’m thrilled to share that my application for the Masters in Computer Science program at the University of Vienna has been accepted for Summer 2024. Coming from India, a non-EU country, I’m now required to apply for a resident permit as to stay and pursue my studies in Austria, as the course is of more than six months.

To fulfil the mandatory requirement of demonstrating proof of funds for one year, necessary for the resident permit application, I have submitted several documents. These include an Education loan sanction letter, a Declaration regarding the origin of funds, and a separate letter from the bank confirming their willingness to disburse the required amount into the student’s bank account upon request by Austrian authorities.

However, according to information on the OEAD’s website, the funds should ideally be in the applicant’s bank account. Unfortunately, there is no clear guidance regarding individuals who have obtained an education loan. This has left me concerned about the possibility of my resident permit being rejected due to the funds not being shown directly in my account.

I would greatly appreciate any information or advice from individuals who have encountered similar situations, particularly fellow Indians who have navigated the Austrian resident permit process.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that Indian banks typically disburse education loan amounts gradually, rather than in a lump sum, to prevent misuse of the funds. This is a standard practice aimed at ensuring responsible financial management.

Thank you in advance for any assistance or insights you can provide.
